Turriff United 0-2 Lossiemouth

04/09/2021 – BREEDON HIGHLAND LEAGUE – THE HAUGHS, TURRIFF

Lossiemouth finally ended the Curse of The Turra Coo as they won at The Haughs for the first time. First half goals won the game for The Coasters, as Ross Elliott and Dean Stewart found the net.

Lossie were without Michael Weir for the first time this season, and welcomed Dean Stewart came back into the starting line-up. A fine day in darkest Shire met the teams as they came out onto the pitch, and from the off Lossie gave their hosts no peace whatsoever. A slow start at Strathspey ultimately cost Lossie any chance of a win and the tourists avoided a repeat by taking the game to Turriff. David Dey was by far the busier of the two goalkeepers and had to be sharp to catch a curling effort from Ryan Sewell a few minutes into the game.

Early chances came and went for Lossie but thirteen minutes after kick-off the tourists took the lead. Ross Elliott cantered through on goal before finishing under Dey. Even at that stage in the game, the lead was entirely deserved. Lossie continue to run the game and were rewarded with a second goal as the half wound down. Dean Stewart his first goal for the Coasters from close range to leave Lossie in control at half time.

The second half saw the roles reversed, as Turriff came out and dominated proceedings after the half time oranges. Lossie only occasionally escaped their own half as Turriff did a number on their guests, but the hosts could not find a way through a Lossie defence that was not for giving Turriff a way back into the game. In particular, a flying save from Logan Ross did nothing for the morale of Turriff, who threw everything at Lossie without success.

A rake of late subs disrupted the rhythm of the game, with Lossie subbing the hobbling Ryan Stuart for Ross Morrison, and later goalscorer Ross Elliott for Fraser Forbes, and the closing ten minutes was easier on the blood pressure of the travelling support than the preceding thirty-five.

Lossie move on to a home game against Keith, with Lossie knowing a win will move them above the Maroons in the table.

Forres Mechanics 1-0 Lossiemouth

28/08/2021 – BREEDON HIGHLAND LEAGUE – MOSSET PARK, FORRES

FORRES MECHANICS took all three points from their meeting with The Coasters at Mosset Park, with Lee Fraser’s goal proving to be enough to win the game for a Forres side still finding their way into the season. A fine day met the teams as they trotted out onto the Mosset Park turf, but the weather proved to be the highlight of the afternoon as a stuffy encounter saw few chances at either end.

Matters were settled eight minutes into the second half when a cross into the area was dropped on the goal line by Lossie goalkeeper Logan Ross, and the fortuitously-placed Lee Fraser made no mistake from all of a yard out.

The Coasters can now prepare for the trip north in midweek for the North of Scotland Cup semi-final with Brora Rangers, ahead of a journey into darkest Aberdeenshire for a crucial Highland League game at Turriff United on the first Saturday in September.
