Lossiemouth FC - Match Report
Lossiemouth v Strathspey Thistle @ Grant Park, Lossiemouth

21-Aug-2010 Lossiemouth v Strathspey Thistle - Scot-Ads Highland League

Lossiemouth saw their winning run come to an end following a lacklustre draw against whipping boys Strathspey Thistle. Lossie took an early lead through Shawn Scott before Thistle levelled ahead of the interval. Lossie went ahead for the second time with a Ross Duncan goal in the second half but Strathspey salvaged a point in the last minute.

Top of the table with three wins out of three going into the game, Lossie wasted no time in trying to make it four in a row. Shawn SCOTT sent a ferocious shot beyond Ridgers from all of 25 yards to open the scoring, but the goal was to be the highlight of what turned out to be a poor first half.

A whistle-happy performance from Cammy McKay combined with a strong wind to produce a stop-start half of football, and there was a wait of a further twenty minutes before there was an incident beyond the middle third of the pitch, a Mattius Bobrowski shot across the face of goal. Bobrowski was unlucky not to equalise later on when another shot rattled the crossbar from close range.

Martin McMullan and Shawn Scott had chances to extend the hosts lead before the break. From long range, McMullan fired a perfectly hit drive beyond the watching Ridgers but was denied a goal by the post, and from closer range Biscuits scuffed a weak shot into the arms of the goalkeeper.

Strathspey kept pressing and were rewarded for their efforts with an equaliser late in the half. Bobrowski sent a curling ball into the box to an unmarked Simon HILL who netted at the back post.

The wind dropped for the second half but the football failed to pick up. A family of seagulls landed near the Strathspey goal and remained undisturbed for such a long spell there were questions asked as to whether they’d be charged for admission.

Eventually, Lossie picked up, and Kevin Flett put down a marker when shooting over from outside the area. Ridgers found himself keeping his side in the game, parrying a shot from Ross Duncan out wide. The ball was recycled by Tony Ross who found Shawn Scott in the area but Ridgers caught his headed effort.

The spell of pressure transformed itself into a second goal for Lossie, coming from the head of summer signing Ross DUNCAN with a quarter of an hour left.

The goal failed to settle the Lossie nerves, and Strathspey were denied three times in succession in the closing minutes. Tony Ross was well placed on the line to clear a diving header from David Ross, and Sam Milton thumped the ball clear from close range following another goalmouth scramble. Thistle went closer still when the ball bounced off the post and wide, but it looked like Lossie might just get away with it.

Injury time was as good as over when the second equaliser arrived for Strathspey, coming courtesy of Simon HILL, who converted a Bobrowski cross for his second goal of the game. The goal was the last incident of the game and deposed Lossie from top spot and down into third place in the league, but on balance of play Strathspey were good value for their point.
