Brora Rangers v Lossiemouth @ Dudgeon Park, Brora

07-Nov-2009 Brora Rangers v Lossiemouth - Scot-Ads Highland League

Lossie got back to winning ways with a solid if unspectacular away win against Brora Rangers. Goals in either half from Kevin Flett and Shawn Scott secured the points, and the game petered out without Lossie conceding another late goal.

The visitors had Tony Ross and Gary Macdonald available for selection following a spell out injured, but Scott Matheson and Jamie Bagley spent the afternoon in the stand. The Brora squad was boosted by the recent arrival of experienced players Daisy Ross and Gary Farquhar, and also featured former Coaster Jamie McKay on the bench.

Both sides threatened early with high balls into the box. Craig Donaldson of Lossie sent a looping header over the bar with the keeper watching, and Shawn Scott headed over from six yards when he really should have hit the target. At the other end, Daisy Ross was making a nuisance of himself, but it was Mark Lamont who produced the first real save from Chris Stuart, his header forcing the keeper into a flying save across the face of goal.

Neither side managed to grab a hold of the game, and half chances were as good as either could manage. Martin McMullan had a chance from the corner of the penalty area but tried to hammer his shot home, the ball striking Ross and bouncing clear.

The closing minutes of the first half brought the game to life. Brora were reduced to ten men following the curious decision by Craig Sim to send off Scott MacAngus, following a tussle for the ball with Shawn Scott. The referee was the only man in the ground to judge the attempt at the ball worthy of a red card, and the decision confused the crowd and players alike.

Moments later the visitors went ahead. Sean McIntosh crossed from the right and an unmarked Kevin FLETT hammered home a volley to open the scoring.

Lossie failed to make the most of the numerical advantage handed to them in the first half, and for the remainder of the game it was hard to tell who had more players. The Lossie goalmouth survived a couple of real scares before the hour was up, Sam Milton heading a Daisy Ross effort off the line, and Chris Stuart scrambled the ball away after a long kick from the other end of the park took an unexpected bounce over his head.

With just over ten minutes to go, Lossie put the game to bed with a second goal. Following one of his quieter afternoons, Shawn SCOTT decided to finish things off. The former Highland League Player of the Year took possession on the halfway line and sprinted down the pitch, sidestepping the keeper and finishing from inside the area.

Lossie went on to close the game out without one of the late goals which have come to haunt the Coasters in recent months. Lossie could added a third near the end when Shawn Scott tried to repeat his goal but could only hit the side netting.
