Lossiemouth v Brora Rangers @ Grant Park, Lossiemouth

21-Feb--2009 Lossiemouth v Brora Rangers - Scot-Ads Highland League

Following what felt like an eternity sat idle due to snow, Lossie finally got back to business with a comfortable win over Brora Rangers at Grant Park. Goals from Shawn Scott, Jamie Bagley and an own goal late on gave the Coasters their third win of the season over Brora, keeping Lossie hot on the heels of Clach and condemning Brora to a battle with Rothes and Fort William for the bottom places.

Shawn Scott started the game for Lossie, despite weeklong rumours of injury, and Martin McMullan and Scott Matheson both retained their midfield spots. A young Brora side looked to former Coasters Jamie McKay for goals and Gordon Connolly for experience in the midfield.

The injury worries continued into the game, with goalkeeper Darren McConnachie picking up a knock in the opening minutes after a collision with Stephen MacCallum. Mini is made of strong stuff and carried on, eager to improve his goals scored total for the season.

The home side wasted no time taking the lead. Shawn SCOTT went close with a low shot, and went one netter after seven minutes, nodding home a corner from Scott Matheson while completely unmarked in the box. Matheson went for goal himself minutes later, but his shot from outside the area was blocked.

As the half wore on, Lossie slowly ran out of ideas, and following a corner which he hit directly onto the post, Matheson was booked for simulation. Michael Macgregor replaced Shawn Scott and Lossie began to creak. Brora showed they could pass the ball and had Lossie chasing shadows as the half drew to a close, though both sides were far from sparkling.

Brora were coming more into the game, with Lossie clearly uneasy while in front. The visitors had the ball in the net minutes before the interval through McKay, but he was deemed offside and the goal was ruled out.

Brora continued where they left off, keeping possession while Lossie struggled to find their feet. Darren McConnachie was called into action to keep the home side in front, saving well from Mark Kennedy.

With Lossie this ragged, it was only a matter of time before the game saw another goal. Surprisingly, it was Lossie who scored it, through Jamie BAGLEY. The youngster produced a run and finish worthy of a better game than this, cutting down the left before turning inside and sending a curling shot past Curtis in the Brora goal.

Lossie settled down following Bagley's display, and took a grip of the game. Michael Macgregor set up Dan Smith for a crack at goal, but the wee man could only fire his shot at the keeper. Craig Donaldson tried a long range effort, shooting over from 25 yards, before Stuart Lamberton did likewise from slightly closer range.

The points were sealed with twenty minutes remaining, with Brora scoring the kind of own goal only teams at the bottom of the league score. An attempted clearance from goalkeeper Mathew Curtis hit Mark MCKERNIE before looping back over the keepers head and into the net.

Brora were still looking for a goal to give them something to take home, and came close through McKernie, who scuffed the ball wide from close range with the Lossie defence posted missing.

No more goals were forthcoming, and Lossie bagged their first win since the reverse fixture in September. The Coaster sit level on points with Clach, and head to Mackessack Park this weekend for a muddy encounter with Rothes.
