v Lossiemouth @ Harmsworth Park, Wick

18-Apr-2009 Wick Academy v Lossiemouth - Scot-Ads Highland League

Wick nearly took the lead with barely two minutes on the clock, Shaun Sinclair played a long ball over the Lossie defence and Gary Weir ran onto the advancing ball and he lobbed the on rushing keeper McConnachie but he was unlucky to see his effort crash off the post

Lossiemouth's first threat came on eleven minutes, it was a free kick on the right edge of the box in which Shawn Scott curled round the wick wall but James More made a brilliant save low to his left at the expense of a corner to Lossie.

Wicks Bryan McKiddie went on a jinking run after 17 minutes skipping a challenge and he played an inch perfect pass to Stevie Cunningham but he scuffed his shot under pressure from two Lossie defenders and McConnachie gathered easily

Lossie nearly took the lead on twenty minutes, a long ball over the Wick defence caught them out and Scott ran onto it and his effort on go forced more into a smart save low to his right.

That save was rewarded at the other end as Wick got their noses in front on 43 minutes with a carbon copy of the goal they scored against Forres to take the lead a fortnight ago, this time a poor clearance from McConnachie found Davie Allan and he slipped Cunningham in down the inside right channel and his cut back found Richard MACADIE who slotted the ball home from six yards.

Lossie started the second half the brighter and should have levelled the scores on 48 minutes, the ever dangerous Jamie Bagley skipped a tackle from Stewart Ross and headed to the byline from there he played back to Scott on the 6 yard line but more made an excellent point blank save to deny Scott at the expense of a corner.

Wick doubled their advantage on 55 minutes with a penalty, Cunningham played Allan in behind the defence and he was tackled from behind by Kevin Stuart on the edge of the box but referee Bicknell pointed to the spot, Stewart ROSS stepped up and made no mistake from 12 yards to put Wick 2-0 up.

The game then quieted down for a while but Lossie mad it tense finish by grabbing a goal in the 90 minute, a corner from the right was not held by more and Shawn SCOTT scrambled the ball home to set up a tight finish.

However Wick held on to make it nine consecutive league wins in a row but now they must head to Inverurie to take on the Locos before hosting Cove Rangers on May 2nd.  With a season ending game against Brora Rangers to look forward to the Wick fans are now dreaming of the possibility of reaching 50 points for the season with 51 points almost certain to ensure a top five finish.
