Four second half goals sunk the
Coasters SFA North Region Challenge Cup hopes despite the patched up
Lossiemouth side holding out until half time. With work commitments and
injuries still hampering consistent squad selection, Lossie started with
Chris Stuart in goals and Kyle Stewart at right back. Former Coaster Craig
Morrison started on the bench for the visitors.
The first effort of the match arrived in the tenth minute, with a corner being met by young Phil McCall who headed over Chris Stuart's bar. Stuart was then forced to show his prowess with the ball at his feet, hoofing a nervy pass back from Craig Donaldson away from the lurking figure of Mark Perry. Perry was denied by Craig Donaldson's defending again before Danny Tritton screwed an effort wide of the post as Keith began to take control of the game. Gary Harris had a shot deflected wide after Stuart Walker's shot was saved and then Walker headed wide from the resulting corner. On the half hour Lossie created their best opening of the game. George Russell played a long free kick into the box where it was controlled by Stuart Lamberton. The Keith loon turned his man and advanced before curling a shot high and wide of the post with Shearer beaten Stuart Walker went even closer two minutes before the break when he rattled the corner of post and bar with a right footed shot. The ball dropped to Donaldson who set up Wood for a shot from twelve yards, but the ball curled wide of the post. Half time – Lossiemouth 0 Keith 0 Keith got the breakthrough they required early in the second half with Gary HARRIS netting his first goal for the club in competitive play. The summer signing from Turriff United broke down the right, cutting in to fire a shot goalwards. Although Chris Stuart made the save the ball rebounded back out to Harris who drilled it back in off the unfortunate Kyle Stewart. The match was put out of side by two goals in the space of a minute with the introduction of Craig Morrison the catalyst for the Maroons to pull clear. A swift counter attack culminated in a low cross from Stuart Walker being turned home by Martin WOOD. Lossie came close to hauling themselves back into the game, with Sean McIntosh involved again. The youngster chased onto a loose ball down the wing before composing himself for a cross from the corner flag. With his teammates struggling to catch up, Kris Niddrie of Keith almost levelled in the process of clearing. Lossie may have taken the centre but they switched off as soon as the ball was rolled forward and moments later the ball was back in their box, being played low across the face for Craig MORRISON to fire home. Mo, who finished Lossiemouths top scorer last year despite leaving the club with less then half of the season gone, then grabbed a second. Fellow sub Sean Keith created the opening with good play down the wing. His low cross was perfect for MORRISON and he duly placed it past Stuart to round off the scoring. Keith progress to face Fraserburgh in the second round. The teams now face each other in the reverse fixture this coming weekend, this time in the league. Full time – Lossiemouth 0 Keith 4 |
