Cove Rangers v Lossiemouth  @ Allan Park, Aberdeen

01-Nov-2008 Cove Rangers v Lossiemouth - Scot-Ads Highland League

Wick Academy gained a valuable 3 points from their long trip to Lossiemouth, after a hard fought 2-1 win at Grant Park. Wick started the brighter team, even though the Lossie keeper Darren McConnachie was not forced to make a save.

The first shot at goal for Wick came with a goal. On the 27th minute a long ball by Gary Weir on the half way line, passed the Lossie defenders and reached midfielder Nigel MACKENZIE his shot from inside the box beat the Lossie goalie and landed in the bottom of the net.

After going a goal down Lossie seemed to come alive and it was less than 10 minute's until they managed to grab a goal back. On the 34th minute a powerful shot from 18 yards for John URQUHART flew past Don MacMillan to reset the equilibrium.

Wick quickly replied to that goal and just 2 minutes later a Richard MacAdie shot was blocked well by the Lossie keeper but landed at the feet of David COWIE for a tap in inside the box. This granted Cowie his 2nd goal of the season.

Lossie started the second half better with a long shot from Michael Macgregor hitting off the bar of the Wick goal. After the hour mark the game quietened down with Lossie getting more of the ball but no shots coming for either side.

The crowd had been quite quiet the whole of the game until the 88th minute when Lossie had a corner. Goalkeeper Darren McConnachie came into the box leaving his goal empty, but attempting to get his third goal of the season. The corner by Jamie Bagley came into the box heading for McConnachie, the keeper got his head to it but wasn't a notable header and nothing came of it. Wick were on the counter, with Lossie having left an open goal but luckily for the Coasters the defenders managed to hold until there keeper was back in his goals and he successfully made the save.

The win for Wick helped them to a well needed 3 points, even although it didn't change any of the league standings. Lossie will now be looking for a win in their next game in two weeks against Buckie Thistle.
