Lossiemouth v Deveronvale @ Grant Park, Lossiemouth

06-Sep-2008 Lossiemouth v Deveronvale - Scot-Ads Highland League

A solitary goal from Mark Chisholm early in the second half was all that separated the two teams at the end of a game which never made it into the classic bracket at a windswept Grant Park.

There was nothing between the two teams in the first forty five minutes with Lossiemouth clearly looking to regain some pride after their heavy defeat at the hands of Clach last weekend.

The Coasters were the first to threaten and James Blanchard had to look lively to touch a 25 yarder from Graeme Wilson over the crossbar, the midfielders wind assisted effort with the outside of his right foot was dropping perfectly into the top corner before being fisted over the bar.

Deveronvale's first effort of note saw Robbie Duncanson hit and angled shot into the sidenet after he cleverly turned Craig Donaldson.  Minutes later a low cross from Mark Cowie saw Darren McConnachie diving bravely at the feet of John Coutts in the six yard box.  The ball spun back to Mark Chisholm who looked set to score but his effort was blocked on the line and eventually cleared by Matt Huckins.

McConnachie had to be brave again when an interchange of passing between Mark Chisholm and Mark Cowie saw the latter run in on goals, through the channel, but McConnachie was sharp enough to be just a yard away from the shot when it was struck and it cannoned clear off the keepers legs.

Lossie's Kyle Stewart dispossessed Steve Dolan and played the ball forward to Stuart Lamberton.  The striker's first effort came back to him off the defender and his second try from 20 yards flew just over the bar.

The half ended with a dodgy moment for Darren McConnachie, coming for a free kick that he never had a chance of getting near and allowing Mark Chisholm to flick a backheader past him but John Urquhart got back on the line to make the clearance and ensure both teams went in on a level footing at half time.

A cross from Robbie Duncanson from the right found Mark Chishom six yards out and the fans were waiting for the net to bulge but Darren McConnachie positioned himself well and parried the shot into the air, with John Coutts heading the second effort over the bar.

The opener came moments later.  John Coutts turned Craig Donaldson and ran into the box, driving to the byeline before cutting the ball back to the unmarked Mark CHISHOLM who had the simplest of tasks to sidefooting it into the corner of the net from 7 yards.

In the 79th minute Lossie created their first real opening of the second half when Martin McMullen took off down the right and delivered a great ball in to Michael Macgregor but the striker missed his header and the ball flew out off his shoulder.

A deep free kick form John Urquhart was turned goalwards by Kevin Stuart and Steve Dolan only just managed to keep it out, appearing to hit it off the post then hitting it clear with his second attempt.

Lossie had committed men forward and they were almost caught out in the final minute when Gary Clark was given the freedom of the penalty area but his attempt to place the ball into the top corner saw him crash the ball back off the post ensuring it finished 1-0 to the visitors.
