Lossiemouth FC - Match Report
Fort William v Lossiemouth @ Claggan Park, Fort William

02-May-2009 Fort William v Lossiemouth - Scot-Ads Highland League

Lossiemouth brought their season to a close with a comfortable win over Fort William at a rain-soaked Claggan Park. Goals from Shawn Scott, Martin McMullan and Tony Ross gave the Coasters a comfortable lead with half an hour left, with Fort scoring a consolation in the closing stages.

A trip to Claggan Park wouldn't be the same without the threat of a postponement, but the playing surface passed an early pitch inspection and Lossie headed south. John Mutch and Scott Matheson wre missing from the side who played Inverurie the previous Wednesday, but Shawn Scott and Martin McMullan both travelled.

An advert for summer football this game was not, with heavy rain falling on the pitch throughout the first half. Lossie didn't stand still for long enough to get wet, however, as they opened the scoring inside the first fifteen minutes. Shawn SCOTT beat the offside trap before finishing past former Lossie keeper Craig Masterton in the Fort goal.

Both sides had chances to score, with Robert MacGillivary firing wide for Fort, before blasting a free kick wide of goal shortly after. For Lossie, Craig Donaldson had the ball in the net but was ruled offside.

The best chance of the half fell to goalscorer Shawn Scott, who saw his shot hit the inside of the post and bounce wide.

Lossie made sure of the points with two quick second half goals. Martin MCMULLAN doubled the visitors lead with a left foot strike from the edge of the area, and minutes later Tony ROSS made it three when he right footed the ball past Masterton from the middle of the penalty area.

With the rain stopped and the sun out, both sides continued to play entertaining football, and Craig Masterton was forced into a flying save to stop Martin McMullan grabbing his second goal of the half. Kyle Stewart had the final chance of the game for Lossie, but sliced a shot wide from the edge of the penalty area.

Fort grabbed a late consolation with minutes remaining, when Richard Finnis set up Danny MACKINTOSH for a stooping header at the back post to give the scoreline a hint of respectability.
