Cove Rangers v Lossiemouth  @ Allan Park, Aberdeen

01-Nov-2008 Cove Rangers v Lossiemouth - Scot-Ads Highland League

Cove Rangers moved up into second place, ahead of Deveronvale on goal difference thanks to a first half flurry of goals which started as early as the eighth minute. Barrie STEPHEN opened the scoring with a right foot shot from 15 yards following some slack Lossie defending to make it three goals in a week.

Two minutes later Barrie Stephen turned provider when his right foot cross into box wasn't cleared at all well by the Lossie defence and Murray MCCULLOCH was there to rifle home from 12 yards.

With 16 minutes Cove's number nine Jamie Watt rattled the crossbar with a stinging 30 yarder and almost immediately after Martin Johnston headed over from Murray McCulloch's cross.

Lossie's first half chance came after 20 minutes when Calum Read skewed a shot from just inside the area, however it was at least a welcome relief for the visiting fans to see the ball in the Cove box.

The Toonsers continued to have chances with both Davie Smith and Martin Johnston wasteful from close range before Dean Lawrie went to ground with a decent shout of a penalty after John Urquhart fouled him inside the area on 33 minutes. It was waved aside.

Cove made it three with a goal in first half injury time when a Barrie Stephen cross was blocked by John Urquhart and again the ball was not cleared properly and Jamie WATT tapped in from three yards for his 19th of the season.

The first real effort of the second half fell to Martin Johnston who saw his long range effort tipped over the bar by Darren McConnachie. Johnston was involved shortly after as he chested the ball down to Murray McCulloch who blasted over from the resulting shot.

However Lossie were proving a more stubborn opponent in the second half and had a chance with 25 minutes to go with a Cody free kick but it was wasted and easily cleared by the Cove defence to the half way line where it was taken down by Martin Johnston who sprinted clear on goal and from 25 yards he hit the bar with his right footed effort.

With five minutes to go Lossie got their first shot on target following some good work from Jamie Bagley down the wing. The youngster squared to Stuart Lamberton at the edge of the area but his weak shot was straight at the keeper as Cove racked up yet another clean sheet.
