Lossie
achieved the result of their season with a sensational 2-1 victory over
Inverurie Locos at Grant Park. A goal in the first minute from Jay-Jay
Urquhart gave Lossie the lead, but when Locos levelled through a scrappy
Tommy Wilson effort, a draw was looking likely right until the end, only
for Shaun McIntosh to fire home the winner as full time approached. The
game was not a minute old and to the surprise of those who had made it to
the ground in time for kick-off, Lossie had the nerve to open the scoring.
With the Locos defence stationary and expecting the offside flag following
a through ball, Jay-Jay URQUHART stole in to drill the ball home under
Jarvie to send the home side racing into the lead. Early
on, Locos were evidently not themselves, and were spraying loose passes
all over the park. Lossie were comfortable in defence as the visitors
struggled to get near McConnachie in the Lossie goal. The visitors took 25
minutes to test the home keeper, and even then Ritchie Singer saw his shot
easily dealt with. Lossie
were putting in a composed performance under the guidance of Charlie
Charlesworth and were growing in belief as the half wore on. Locos were
edging their way back into the tie and came closest to levelling ten
minutes before half time, with Mark Simpson heading onto the bar and
Steven Park smashing the rebound against the post. Half time – Lossiemouth 1 Inverurie Locos 0 The second half commenced with Locos immediately on the attack, and the tourists were ruing their luck again as Ross McWilliam headed against the post after more good work from Singer. Lossie countered swiftly, with McMullan sprinting towards goal only to be stopped by Jarvie. Despite Lossies solid showing, Locos greater experience began to show, and they found themselves pushing further forward. Several soft free kick awards gave Inverurie plenty time on the ball in Lossies half and it was no surprise when they equalised, albeit rather fortuitously, through a set piece. Tommy WILSON got the last meaningful touch on a cross into the area, but a couple of deflections sent the ball past McConnachie to square things up. All things considered, going into the business end of the game against Locos level pegging and having given a fair account of themselves, Lossie could not complain about their afternoon so far. The Coasters were still eager to impress and first David Blackhall and then Calum Reid had chances to poach a winner, but found Jarvie equal to them. Just when it looked like a draw would secure Lossie their first point against Locos since Graham Tatters was in charge, the home side pounced to scoop all three, when Sean MCINTOSH stormed into the box and delicately flicked the ball over Jarvie, sparking scenes of wild celebration at the corner flag. The youngsters first goal for Lossie came in injury time and proved to be the last meaningful action, as the referee called for time shortly after. The Coasters now head into three consecutive games against sides in the bottom five, starting with a trip to Fort William. After most of the season in the mire at the very bottom, the opportunity to improve on last years final position has presented itself, with the 12th place a real possibility.
