Lossiemouth v Huntly @ Grant Park, Lossiemouth

25-Aug-2007 Lossiemouth v Huntly - North Challenge Cup Second Round

Huntly progressed through to the semi final of the SFA Challenge Cup with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Lossiemouth in the Grant Park sunshine this afternoon.

Lossie's plans were dealt an early blow with Davie Hendry leaving the field due to a reoccurrence of an knee injury and in the subsequent reshuffle the Coasters moved Steven Rattray to sweeper in a back three alongside Kevin Stuart and George Russell with Kyle Stewart coming on to play in the centre of the park.

The first opening of the game came in the 10th minute and it was an excellently flighted free kick from Darren Watson which found Mark Wood, but his flick on went out of play agonisingly between Craig Morrison and the far post.

At the other end Ross McWilliam and Gary McGowan took it in turns to break from midfield drive at the Coasters backline, firing in shots from the edge of the box.  McWilliam shot wide while Darren McConnachie had to make a solid save to deny McGowan.

Ten minutes before the break Huntly took the lead.  Lossie lost the ball from their own throw in deep inside their own half and when Neil Gauld found Bruce Cormie, his flick set the ball perfectly into Russell GUILD's path and with a clear sight of the he simply netted from eight yards out.

Only some fine last gasp defending from George Russell ensured the scoreline remained at one in the dying stages while at the other end Mark Wood struck a 30 yard effort just wide of Ross Bremner's postage stamp corner.

Half time – Lossiemouth 0 Huntly 1

The second half began with two goals within the space of four minutes which killed the game as a contest.  The first saw Mark Gray given the freedom of the park to take the ball from a Colin Robertson throw in 30 yards out and advance before firing in a shot which bounced off Darren McConnachie and struck GUILD, who looked suspiciously offside, and trundled in off the post.

Moments later Guild found space once again and with a four on three break Huntly made the extra man count, the number eight picking out Neil GAULD with a cross which left the small striker to head into the empty net.

Lossie's only hope of a comeback was an early goal and they had the chance to pull one back in the 55th minute when Martin McMullan sent Craig Morrison in on goals.  The striker lifted the ball over the diving Ross Bremner but his effort slid wide.

From there on in there only ever looked like being one winner and in the end Huntly added a fourth with just minutes left on the clock when, once again they flooded the box outnumbering the Lossie defenders and Craig DORRAT was left with the simplest of tap ins from two yards out after Neil Murray delivered the cross.
