Fraserburgh v Lossiemouth @ Bellslea Park, Fraserbugh

22-Mar-2008 Fraserburgh v Lossiemouth - Scot-Ads Highland League

Fraserburgh were victorious against Lossiemouth for the first time in 3 years, as Allan Hale and then a Graham Johnston free-kick gave Fraserburgh all three points, although the home team never quite hit top gear against a stuffy Coasters outfit.

Lossie were under pressure with less than a minute gone, as Allan Hale was sent through by Steven Main but Darren McConnachie did well to parry away the shot. Hale did however get revenge on the ‘Coasters' keeper, as the Broch went ahead after six minutes. Good link-up play between Jamie Ralph and Derek Milne allowed HALE to lose his marker and head past McConnachie.

Lossiemouth then levelled the match midway through the first half. Former Elgin City player Russell MCBRIDE turned a dangerous Lossie cross into his own net for 1-1. Michael Thomson had to save 2 powerful strikes from George Russell in the space of 3 minutes, Thomson winning a place in the starting XI ahead of veteran Billy Gordon.

The away side hit the woodwork twice just before half-time, with Sean McIntosh cutting inside the Fraserburgh penalty area before striking the outside of Thomson's left hand post, and then, Martin McMullen struck the bar seconds before the break from 25 yards from goal.

After an uneventful 11 second-half minutes, HFL top scorer Graham JOHNSTON made his goal tally even better, taking him up to 24 for the season, and 19 in the League, with yet another free-kick, but this one could have been mistaken as a low cross, missing everyone before finding its way into the back of the net.

Johnston could have scored another free-kick only 180 seconds after his first strike, but this one wasn't to be as it flew over the top, after HFL Select midfielder Willie West was fouled right on the edge of the box.  Lossie though they had snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat 18 minutes from time, only for David Blackhall's close-range header to be ruled offside by Assistant Referee Michael Milne, as they continued to press forward in search of an equaliser.

Lossiemouth continued to push for a 2nd goal, but couldn't create enough chances; even Coasters keeper McConnachie was sent up for a corner, in the dying seconds to try and salvage a point from this match.  In the end Fraserburgh were extremely relived to come away with the 3 points in their 3001st competitive match, after a nervy ending to the game, ending the miserable run against Lossiemouth in the process.
