Clachnacuddin made amends for
their 2-0 loss to Brora in the previous outing by easing past Lossiemouth
by the same scoreline at a windswept Clach Park in Inverness today.
Playing into the wind Lossie found it hard to get the ball over the halfway line for long spells of the opening period and it was the home team who were in the ascendancy. Robbie Duncanson and Blair Lawrie looked particularly sharp, while Gordon Connelly was pulling the strings in the middle of the park however dogged defending meant that chances were at a premium. In the 28th minute a Robbie Duncanson cross found Blair Lawrie arriving from the right but his volley flew wide. Meanwhile at the other end Sean McIntosh managed to get clear of his marker out on the right, collecting a deep David Blackhall free kick. The youngster drove into the box but from 8 yards opted to chip the ball across the face of the goal and overcooked things. Clach's Gordon McNab tested Craig Masterton with a shot from range, but the keeper, who had impressed with a string of catches from the dozen corners the home team racked up in the opening period, made the save. With five minutes to go before the break it seemed certain the Lilywhites were going to make the breakthrough but Steven Rattray came up with two important blocks to keep them out. Firstly he got back to slide in and dispossess Gordon Connelly on the penalty spot when the veteran was all set to pick his spot then, less than 30 seconds later the ball was worked into the path of Robbie Duncanson 8 yards out but a flying tackle from Rattray made sure the well struck effort flew out for yet another corner. In the end the pressure told though and a minute from the break Clach went ahead. A throw in from the right saw Blair Lawrie play a neat one two to create room in the channel and when his driven ball across the goal was parried by Craig Masterton, Chris SUTHERLAND was on hand to side foot the ball past the covering defenders on the goal line. Half time – Clachnacuddin 1 Lossiemouth 0 The opening stages of the second half mirrored the first with Lossie using the strong wind to their advantage and pressing Clach back. Craig Morrison had a shot which flew just wide after a winding run from the halfway line took him as far as the edge of the box. They went even closer when George Russell's long free kick from the halfway line looked destined to find the top corner but it struck the underside of the bar and bounced down and out to the relief of Neil Hastie. Clach netted the crucial second goal that gave them the confidence to ride out any late surge. Darren Watson slipped at the halfway line and from there a series of one touch poked passes involving Andrew Macleod, the influential Gordon Connelly, Blair Lawrie and Robbie Duncanson. In the end it was Chris SUTHERLAND who managed to toe poke the ball through the legs of Craig Masterton to the delight of the home support.. Lossie looked for a way back into the game but their best effort came from Kyle Stewart who had a shot saved then curled one past the post from 12 yards in the 72nd minute. At the other end the lively Blair Lawrie (who will have to pay for a new corner flag) cut in past two players and flicked a shot towards the bottom corner, however the post denied him a first and Clach a third.
