Lossiemouth v Brora Rangers @ Grant Park, Lossiemouth

15-Mar-2008 Lossiemouth v Brora Rangers - Scot-Ads Highland League

Lossiemouth moved up to 13th and closed the gap on 12th placed Brora Rangers to just three points thanks to a fifth minute goal from Graeme Wilson and another solid defensive display.

The Coasters took an early lead with midfielder Graeme WILSON, who was restored to the starting line up, being given some time and space in the centre of the park to advance forward before unleashing a 30 yard effort which flew into the bottom corner of the net.

Brora's first chance of note game when Aaron Christie delivered a corner which was met by Mark Kennedy but his header drifted just past the post. Then at the other end only a fine last ditch tackle by Mark Smith prevented Graeme Wilson getting on the end of a Kyle Stewart throughball.

With fourteen minutes on the clock Sam Mackay was fed in by a chipped ball from Gary Macleod.  He hit a shot from 25 yards which was coolly stopped by Darren McConnachie. Lossie were having the edge possession wise and again Graeme Wilson made some good ground in the centre of the park however his long range effort found the whins behind the goal rather than the net this time.

Wilson looked set to add a second in somewhat bizarre circumstances when his corner seemed to be heading straight into the net before his team mate, Kyle Stewart, turned it wide.

The half ended with a flurry in and around the Lossie goal. Mike Mackenzie showed some good skill to get past Steven Dixon before delivering a cross which highlighted a lack of bodies in the box. Mark Smith timed his run into the box to perfection but headed just over from a deep Aaron Christie free kick. However soon after Mark Smith made up the ground to run in on Darren McConnachie but with the ball on his weaker foot his final effort went wide.

Half time – Lossiemouth 1 Brora Rangers 0

The first ten minutes of the second period saw a number of fouls give Brora the opportunity to deliver the ball into the box but Darren McConnachie and the Lossie defence were alive to the danger

Aaron Christie was able to nip in behind the defence eight minutes after the break but he could only slide his shot wide of goal.  Then Sam Mackay linked up well with Gary Macleod but the young midfielder was denied by a last ditch goal line clearance when he looked set to level.

At the other end Michael Gray made a fine save from a well struck free kick and then he pushed a powerful David Blackhall strike around the post as Lossie went for the killer second.

With just one goal in it there was no surprise the Brora pushed forward in the last ten minute.  Gary Macleod nutmegged Calum Read before firing a shot into the side netting then James Murray and Sam Mackay took it in turns to go close, but neither of them was able to hit the target.

Gary Macleod did hit the target with an overhead kick from a Sam Mackay cross but Darren McConnachie was there to push the ball past the post for a corner.  The final chance of the game was created by the ever elusive Sam Mackay but from his cross James Murray could only header over the bar leaving Lossie to hold on in front of a small but happy band of supporters.
