Brora Rangers v Lossiemouth @ Dudgeon Park, Brora

13-Oct-2007 Brora Rangers v Lossiemouth - Scot-Ads Highland League

Brora Rangers came back from the loss of an early goal to move seven points clear of the teams at the bottom of the table to overtake Huntly and to join Forres Mechanics and Clachnacuddin on the eight point mark.

It was Lossie who looked like the team in the mood from the off and they dominated the early exchanges.  Having pushed Brora onto the back foot they got their just desserts with an opener in the 8th minute when Craig Morrison's corner was thighed over the keeper and into the back of the net by Martin MCMULLAN.

The Coasters were unlucky not to double their tally. Firstly Martin McMullan zipped one over the bar from 30 yards then Craig Morrison and Steven Rattray both had snapshots which flew wide as the pressure mounted.

However Brora switched Sam Mackay back into midfield and took a more direct approach to the game halfway through the period and it was to pay off for them. Their first chance arrived in the 27th minute of the game when a corner from Aaron Christie was met by Jason Gunn but his header flew just over the bar.

Five minutes before the break a Kevin Lewis effort from the edge of the area saw Darren McConnachie parry the ball wide and then get up to turn Mark Smith's shot away for a corner.

Disaster struck for Lossie as Brora then turned the game on it's head with two goals in the space of three minutes to take the lead before the break. The first began inadvertently when a pass from Steven Dixon was deflected off the back of referee David Watt and when it dropped to a Cattach they launched a rapier like counter attack which culminated in Mark Kennedy;s low cross being diverted past his own keeper by the unfortunate George RUSSELL.

Just minutes later Mark Kennedy charged down an attempted clearance from Kevin Stuart and went down the left wing before delivering a cross which came back to Sam MACKAY at the edge of the box and he drilled fine volley low into the bottom right hand corner of the net.

Half time – Brora Rangers 2 Lossiemouth 1

Lossie went back on the offensive early in the second half and Craig Morrison fed in David Blackhall but Michael Gray made the save. A minute later a deflected shot from the edge of the box saw Steven Rattray nip in to turn the ball goalwards but his right foot flicked volley lacked the power to beat Michael Gray.

Lossie went even closer when a low corner from Craig Morrison was flicked on at the front post by a Brora defender and Kevin Stuart was inches away from levelling as he slid in at the back post.

However Brora opened up some clear daylight between the two sides and effectively clinched the win in the 73rd minute when a set piece play saw Aaron CHRISTIE run on to John Farquhar's nod on to hit a right footed shot into the back of the net from seven yards out.

With Lossie pushing on both sides had chances to add to the tally, however Brora never looked anything less than comfortable throughout the closing stages and ran out the clock to record a deserved victory.
