Golspie Sutherland v Lossiemouth @ King George V Park, Golspie

11-Aug-2007 Golspie Sutherland v Lossiemouth - North of Scotland Challenge Cup

Lossie ventured north for the second time in a week, desperate to make amends for the previous weekends hiding at the hands of Wick Academy. Kevin Stuart and Mark Wood returned to the side, and the side looked in healthier shape than on the trip to Harmsworth.

It took Lossie only seven minutes to open the scoring, with Steven RATTRAY nodding home from a few yards after a long range effort from Wilson struck the underside of the bar and bounced out.

Within minutes Lossie were further ahead. Craig MORRISON harassed the Golspie defence into releasing possession and Mo sprinted towards goal to fire home at the near post, the shot leaving the keeper with no chance due to its accuracy.

So, despite the grey skies, things we looking up. Lossie created more chances to finish the game but were wasteful in front of goal, with Morrison, Rattray and Wilson spurning opportunities to bag the third. Despite the cushion, memories of the previous week were stirred when Golspie chose to have a go, with the northeners matching Lossie for long spells in the first half without managing to pull one back.

The home side finally got themselves back in the game shortly after half time when Tommy CAMPBELL curled into the box a cross that confused everyone beneath it, with both sets of players watching on as it dropped into the goal at the far post. On the basis of the game so far, it was the least Golspie deserved and the travelling support began to sweat a little more.

No sooner were the home side back in the tie and Lossie restored their two goal lead. Wood and Morrison combined well on the edge of the box to release WILSON, who rifled home under Bokas to put Lossie in the box seat.

The visitors continued to create chances, with Morrison left looking on in disbelief after Bokas saved his rasping shot at his near post from point blank range. Soon after Morrison found himself clean through on goal again and poked his shot wide of the advancing keeper, only to watch in frustration as the ball slid inches wide of the post.

Substitute Jamie McKay was next to threaten the lively Golspie area, and turned his man on the edge of the six-yard box and fire across goal. Once again the visitors were denied, this time by the frame of the goal.

Lossie survived more than decent shout for a penalty by the home side, the most obvious being Craig Mastertons apparent hauling down of Aaron Smith late on, only for the referee to wave away the appeals.

Lossie secured the win and the scoreline their pressure deserved with a fine finish from David BLACKHALL late in the game, who successfully lobbed Bokas from twenty yards to add a touch of gloss to the score.

Lossie progress to the second round and will face Huntly at Grant Park on the 25th of August. With two games to go before then, including a stiff test at home against Keith this Friday, the Coasters have time to prepare and get ready for a cup tie they might just have a chance of winning.
