Lossiemouth v Clachnacuddin @ Grant Park, Lossiemouth

05-Jan-2008 Lossiemouth v Clachnacuddin - Scot-Ads Highland League

Last year Clach took four points out of the six in the clashes with Lossiemouth having scored six to the Coasters four. This season it was 2-1 on aggregate but the outcome remained the same with the Lilywhites collecting a point on their travels against a stuffy Lossie team

The first half saw some occasional flashes of intricate build up play with Stuart Cameron's mark being made on the Coasters who often showed a composure on the ball that belied their lowly position in the table. However neither team seriously threatened, with Clach creating the best of the chances.

Chris Ross looked lively early on and he had a couple of efforts in the first ten minutes of the game but on both occasions Darren McConnachie was equal to his efforts. A neat build up in the twelfth minute saw Steve Sanderson strike an effort wide from 12 yards out as the Lilywhites opened on top.

Kyle Stewart looped a header over the bar at the other end but the best opportunity of the first half for the home team fell to skipper Steve Dixon. He rose at the back post to meet a John Urquhart corner on the quarter hour, but the defender's downward header was directed just wide of the target.

There was one further effort of note in the first 45; Blair Lawrie flighted a great ball in from the right which picked out Robbie Duncanson at the back corner of the six yard box but his side volley ruffled the sidenetting to the relief of the Lossie defence.

The goal the game needed arrived eight minutes after the break and it was Peter Pan himself, Gordon Connelly who got his name on the scoresheet although it is hard to say just what part of his body he scored with.

Robbie Duncanson battled for the ball down the left and eventually was able to drill a low ball across the face of the goal which was diverted into the back of the net by CONNELLY from point blank range.

Blair Lawrie was only inches away from adding a spectacular second when he tried a Beckham, with a drilled lob from the halfway line which landed on the roof of the net with Darren McConnachie back tracking.

When the second goal did arrive it was to be a leveller.  Mark Wood moved from right to left and his ball in from the sideline was taken down by Kyle STEWART who turned and drilled a scorching low shot past Neil Hastie from 10 yards.

Both managers made their first change in the 70th minute and ironically they almost combined for a goal.  Sean McIntosh's first touch saw him surrender possession in midfield and a throughball from Robbie Duncanson sent Andrew Fraser down the inside right channel. He took a touch before firing just over from 6 yards on the angle.

Lossie players then began to drop like flies and within minutes Stuey Cameron was forced into committing all his subs and playing with the clearly injured Kyle Stewart.  Understandably it was Clach who carried the impetus for the following ten minutes.

Chris Ross, Robbie Duncanson, Gordon Connelly and Mike Sanderson all had efforts but none of them were good enough to find the net. Then in the final minute Clach were handed a great chance to win the game when Mark Wood was harshly adjudged to have handled right on the edge of his own area.

Blair Lawrie stepped up and fired it towards the top left hand corner of the net but Darren McConnachie, who was covering that side, made a great save to divert the ball away and as the time ticked on the Lossie defence matched their goalie's commitment to hold on for the point.
