Lossiemouth v Fraserburgh @ Grant Park, Lossiemouth

03-Nov-2007 Lossiemouth v Fraserburgh - Scot-Ads Highland League

It is now three years since Fraserburgh managed to beat Lossiemouth, the jinx continuing at Grant Park this afternoon and getting Rab Mulheron off to a decent start in his first competitive game since taking over from Tommy Madden.

In nine minutes, Steven Dixon's well weighted through pass sent Sean McIntosh racing in but Michael Thomson read the danger and was out to clear

One of the League's in form strikers Graham Johnston looked set to add to his seasonal tally when a ball was laid back to him but Darren McConnachie got enough fingertips on it to push over the bar.

Neil Main would have delighted in ending his four year spell at Bellslea with a goal before heading to Oz but again Mini was well placed to save his header after Michael Stephen had pinged in the perfect free kick.

A common theme of the first half was the visitors conceding needless fouls and that was breaking up the play well from the Coasters viewpoint as they kept chatting each other through the proceedings.

Mini was again to the fore when Allan Hale struck a fine diagonal ball from Main the junior in 33 minutes, the No 1 who recently returned from loan at Buckie Rovers making a save at full stretch from well off his line.

The goal the Black and Whites craved came in 34 minutes. A free kick was lobbed into the box, Johnston knocked it back and Michael STEPHEN slammed the ball through the keeper for the opener

Within two minutes it was 1-1 and possibly one of the best goals seen at the ground in a long time, a clearing header falling onto the right and weaker foot of John URQUHART, the youngster's sweet volley beating Thomson all ends up

And it was the Coasters who finished the strongest in the half, a Mark Wood effort effort going just over and Graham Wilson sending an effort just a few inches away from Thomson's right.

Whatever the respective expectations of the two outfits in the second half, they were to be shattered by an incident in 56 minutes. Jamie Ralph went in two footed in a tackle but did come away with the ball, however Ref Fraser opted to book two players for protesting. From there onwards it was a constant stop start routine as one player after another found their way into the book, mainly for dissent.

With substitutions also hindering the flow of play, the Broch were the side to suffer as they laboured to get at the home goal, a sea of red defenders battling away and making some amazing last ditch challenges.

In 88 minutes, Stephen, then Neil Main tried to walk the ball in and it was left to Kevin  Norris right on full time to fire an effort inches over the top

So departed Neil Main, not on a high note and elder brother Steven Main coming on for the last 20 minutes, also failed to enjoy his 200th appearance.
