David Macrae helped himself to a double as Nairn County deservedly ran out three nil winners at Station Park on what was a glorious afternoon on the Moray Firth coast. The former Inverness Caley Thistle man was pushed up front alongside Ian Brooks in this one and he was a threat from the off. In only four minutes Brian Macleod made his way down the right and fizzed the ball back across for Macrae but his header flew over the crossbar. Soon after Macrae was to be denied by stand in keeper Chris Stuart. MacMillans lay off at the edge of the box was curling just under the bar but Stuart sprung to his left to tip it over for a corner. At the other end a 30 yard effort from Steven Rattray flew high and wide of the target as Lossie failed to create any clearcut openings. Halfway through the half the home side got their noses in front. Having won the physical battle out wide the ball was played inside to Wayne Mackintosh who helped it on for Gregg MAIN who laced the high bouncing ball into the top corner from 25 yards. Lossie were still restricted to long range efforts. Craig Morrison and Steven Rattray both failed to test John Campbell as did Graeme Wilson but his dipping 30 yard effort landed on the roof of the net. Gregg Main had an effort which went wide form an Ian Brooks flick then Brian Macleod, who escaped a red card after clearly kicking out at his man off the ball, hit a left foot effort over the bar. However six minutes before half time a run down the right wing by Wayne Mackintosh saw the Lossie defence sucked to the ball and when the midfielder cut the ball back David MACRAE had the freedom of the penalty box to roll the ball into the back of the net. Half time – Nairn County 2 Lossiemouth 0 Eleven minutes into the second half a Steven Rattray effort from a Marc Whyte lay off deflected off Wayne Mackintosh and spun wide for corner but little came of the set piece. Moments after than Nairn broke up field and created the space for a man over a the back post. That man was Michael Sanderson but with time to pick his spot he drove the shot wide of Chris Stuarts right hand post with the goalkeeper doing well to narrow the angles. Martin Macdonald was the next to try his luck for the Wee County when he rose to meet a Gregg Main cross and head it back towards the bottom corner but Chris Stuart reacted well to make a fine stop and got up quickly to prevent any follow up chances. Any lingering doubts about the outcome of this game were killed off in the 72nd minute when Duncan Jones crossed the ball in from the right and Davie MACRAE met it first time on the volley, using the inside of his foot to spin it into the top right hand corner of the net from 12 yards. . Ian Brooks looked to get his name on the scoresheet to round off the afternoon for Nairn but Stuart smothered well while at the other end a fine Sean McIntosh run from inside his own half saw the space open up however the youngster was caught in two minds 20 yards out and was eventually dispossessed. The Wee County continue to keep the pressure on Cove Rangers in the battle for sixth with seventh place looking a formality. Lossie now travel to Fort William on Wednesday night in a vital game for the Coasters. Full time – Nairn County 3 Lossiemouth 0 |
