Keith v Lossiemouth @ Kynoch Park, Keith

26-Aug-2006 Keith v Lossiemouth - Qualifying Cup (North) First Round

After a long, long wait, the goals finally came, and when they did, they were plentiful and worth the wait. Lossie and Keith served up a cracking cup-tie and, by sharing eight goals, ensure they both get another chance at qualifying for the Second Round and a trip to Cove Rangers.

Lossie started the game at a faster tempo than had been seen in previous weeks, which caused Keith problems from kick off. Middleton put down an early marker as he fired a shot from long range towards Shearer in the Keith goal only to see it slice wide at the last minute.

Any plans Tommy Madden had for the afternoon went out the window just seven minutes in went David Muir went over unchallenged and after a delay was stretchered off with an ankle injury. Kyle STEWART made his first appearance as a signed Lossie player shortly after and made an immediate impact, scoring with almost his first touch after good work from Morrison.

Keith didn’t see that coming and began to press for an equaliser, only to leave gaps in their defence. Morrison came close to adding a second for Lossie but in taking the difficult route around Shearer gave the keeper time to get down and block the shot.

The home side levelled with twenty minutes remaining in the half, when Cammy KEITH hit a fine volley over McConnachie from the corner of the box after a long ball downfield from Niddrie.

Now the goalscoring account for the season had been opened, Lossie went looking for more, with Morrison just failing to reach a spill by Shearer after blocking a shot by Stewart. Keith also fancied themselves to get another but despite some careless defending from Lossie, the homesters could not take advantage of several free headers in the box.

Half time – Keith 1 Lossiemouth 1

Keith opened the second half by continuing their push for a second, with Mackay watching his shot deflected wide. McConnachie was firm with the punch from the corner and the danger was cleared.

The home side kept Lossie pinned in their half for the first fifteen minutes of the half, proving wasteful with several chances and it was to cost them as Lossie went two ahead. Gary Youngson and Craig Morrison did the hard work down the wing before the latter drove a low cross into the box and Stuart CAMERON was on hand to fire home from twelve yards.

Keith were level minutes later after former Lossie men Darren Still and Neil ROBERTSON combined well to hand the latter an easy finish from ten yards. Almost from kick off Keith went ahead for the first time through Jamie LENNOX, who rose unmarked to head home a Still corner.

The visitors were not finished yet, however. Lossie fired in an equaliser shortly after going behind, with a deflection taking a MIDDLETON free kick past Shearer, and to almost everyones surprise Lossie went ahead with ten minutes remaining. Kyle STEWART produced a sublime curling finish past Shearer and in at the base of his far post to set up a dramatic finish.

Keith wasted no time in getting back on equal terms though, and Stuart WALKER took advantage of Lossies stationary defending at corners to head in a fourth for the home side.

So, after all that time waiting, Lossie finally score four, yet in true Lossie style the Coasters still failed to earn a win. They do have the chance to do it all again this weekend at Grant Park in the replay, but more shuffling of the pack will be needed as Dixon is unavailable, Muir, Hendry and Stuart remain injured and McIntosh is available again.
