Lossiemouth v Huntly @ Grant Park, Lossiemouth

23-Dec-2006 Lossiemouth v Huntly - Scot-Ads Highland League

Three goals in the final seventeen minutes of the game allowed Huntly to see off a Lossiemouth side which battled manfully for over an hour against their powerful opponents on a fine afternoon for football on the Moray coast.

The table toppers looked to start the game on the front foot and were the first to put an effort on target in the 9th minute when Bruce Cormie crossed in from the right for Colin Robertson but his header flew straight at Craig Masterton.

They kept the pressure on the home defence but the Reds upped their work rate and rarely gave their opponents any piece and they will have felt disappointed to go a goal down. A ball down the inside left channel saw Neil Reid hold off a challenge and turn the ball low across the face of goal from eight yards and as it evaded the men at the near post Chris HENDERSON was racing in at the far stick to gleefully sidefoot home. A notch on his second Huntly debut.

Lossiemouth strung together a couple of good passing moves in a brief flurry in the Huntly half and one of them saw Graeme Wilson winning a free kick 25 yards from goal in a central position. Gavin Middleton stepped up and pinged his right footed kick over the wall and it took a fantastic stop from Ross Bremner to turn it over the crossbar.

Half time – Lossiemouth 0 Huntly 1

Huntly pushed Lossie onto the backfoot again in the second period with Niall Corsers dominance in the air proving the springboard for some slick attacking moves. Russell Guild, Keith Reid and Ondrej Koc all went close before the visitors doubled their lead from a set piece. A deep ball into the back post was nodded down for Keith REID who had spun away form his marker and was left with a tap in as the ball was nodded across the goal.

Grant Shewan attempted to pull Lossie back into the game with a well struck 30 yarder which Ross Bremner got down to touch around his post in the 76th minute however the result was sealed when Ondrej KOC got on the end of Colin Robertsons cross to net the Black and Golds third of the game.

With two minutes left Keith REID put the icing on the cake when he rose to nod a Russell Guild cross into the back of the net from 12 yards having beaten Craig Masterton to the ball.

It rounded off a very impressive performance from the league leaders who played a powerful and attacking brand of football that will ensure they will be a major player in this seasons title race.
