Lossie
completed an unhappy hat trick this weekend as they finished their third
league game of the season with a no-scoring defeat. The last competitive
goal the Coasters scored was back in April when Tony Ross put one away at
Christie Park, the scene of Lossies latest suffering. Only a goal down at
the interval to a Huntly side previously as unsuccessful as their guests
in the league this season, Lossie slowly fell away in the second half as
the home side fired in another three to get their season up and running. Despite
heavy rain overnight in the northeast, Christie Park was in excellent
condition for football, but saw little in the opening stages as both teams
proceeded carefully. Lossie were limited to a Coull header over from a
corner and a McMullan special into the training goals by the side of the
pitch in the first fifteen minutes. Huntly
were enjoying the better of things and looked more composed than their
guests, and took the lead midway through the half. After a short spell of
pressure from Lossie, Huntly broke quickly and Neil Reid was allowed space
to place a perfect cross on the head of Gary MCGOWAN, who nodded
home. Lossie had the triumvirate of Muir, Morrison and Coull up front creating chances, and Coull had the last one of the half, heading a Middleton free kick just over the bar. Half time – Huntly 1 Lossiemouth 0 As
is now traditional, Lossie started the second half slower than their
opposite numbers, and Ritchie Taylor was allowed space to shoot at goal
after only a couple of minutes, only to find a well positioned McConnachie
equal to the shot. Shortly
after, Lossies season so far was summed up in the space of a minute.
McIntosh, again spending his afternoon battling in midfield, played a
clever ball through to Morrison who chipped Bremner, only to watch in
dismay as the ball dropped just the wrong side of the bar. From the
resulting goal kick, Huntly proceeded to score, with Richard CRAIG
finishing from a few yards after a pass from Taylor. Huntly
went on to wrap things up with twenty minutes remaining, with Russell GUILD
tapping home after some penalty box chaos. The
remainder of the match passed off with little in the way of incident,
although an outrageous dive by McGowan was treated with derision by the
visiting support. The winger replied in kind by lowering his shorts and baring
his underwear to the travelling army shortly after, an action that
deserved a
booking from a fashion point of view alone. The
home side gave Lossie a final kick in the ankles with a goal ten minutes
from time, when CRAIG grabbed his second with a cheeky backheel. Full time – Huntly 4 Lossiemouth 0 |
