Fraserburgh v Lossiemouth @ Bellslea Park, Fraserburgh

10-Mar-2007 Fraserburgh v Lossiemouth - Scot-Ads Highland League

An ever improving Lossiemouth team put up a spectacular fight against an off colour Fraserburgh but were unfortunate to go home with just a point after a last gasp leveller from Gavin Wemyss.

From the kick off the Coasters looked set on piling the pressure forwards on a young home side missing some key players in midfield. Pressure was evidently felt on the Broch defence as every move forward was closed down quickly and forced back to keeper Billy Gordon who also showed anxiety through a miss kick; with Craig Morrison closing down the chance to cut in and capitalise on the error but he dragged his shot wide from close range.

Kyle Stewart was also ready to pounce on a ball in behind the full back and having worked well down the left channel Ryan Christie stood his ground and denied an early goal. Morrison went for goal from a free kick 25yards out who struck it low towards the left corner forcing a diving save from Gordon. Fraserburgh as Lossie continued to hold the upper hand.

Fraserburgh slowly managed to work up field but crosses from Steven Main could not find a player in black and white to have a shot on target, Allan Hale did however have a chance but his strike was blocked at close range.

Lossiemouth continually drove forward centrally, with Steven Rattray creating the space to play a through ball to Morrison who took time to compose himself before the shot, but Gordon was off his line quickly to narrow the angle and produced a fine save to keep the scores level.

However he couldn't prevent the inevitable as a Graeme Wilson cross found MORRISON on the left post to head in and give the visitors a deserved lead. Lossiemouths lead was nearly doubled as Jamie Ralph allowed his counterpart Martin McMullan sight of goal but his first touch was too heavy and Gordon was on call to pick up.

After the break the Coasters still was set on pounding forwards but Fraserburgh were just as quick to counter, Steven Main finding the ball fall to him after a clearance struck from the edge of the visitors box and found the wrong side of the left upright.

Ralph was close to equalising too with a corner from Gavin Wemyss headed over the bar. Just after an hour played, Lossie found the goal the needed through Stevie Rattray. Kevin Stuart heading in a Morrison corner from the left across the goal at the back post and RATTRAY was well placed in the 6 yard box to net.

The alarm bells started ringing for Fraserburgh and battled for a glimpse at goal; Wemyss provided Neil McLaren a cross which he managed to head over goal then Hale also set up Wemyss for a shot after a run down the right and into the box.

Fraserburgh found the lifeline they needed with 20 minutes to play, a Neil Main free kick on the right edge of Lossiemouths area was swung in towards goal and only required a delicate header from Derek MILNE at the back post to pull a goal back.

Steven Main set up McLaren a header near the penalty spot but Masterton parried the ball upwards, unfortunately Hale was not quick enough to charge as Masterton was on his knees before catching the ball.

The Coasters seemed more willing to defend their one goal lead than to extend it which allowed Fraserburgh forwards, Neil Main took a free kick within his own half long and up to McLaren who got a shot on goal and found the back of the net, but celebrations were cut short as the linesman's flag was raised ruling it offside.

The visitors had few chances near the end of the game, Gavin Middleton had a free kick with which he decided to go for the spectacular finishing goal but he found the Broch wall, Rattray found the rebound and struck a fizzing left footer really well but it was too straight and found Gordon's hands.

Craig Morrison had the last sight of goal for the Coasters after he found himself against 2 defenders, he managed to turn and dribble his way on goal and Gordon was off his line but the resultant chip was too much and found the roof of the net.

Lossiemouth looked set on securing all 3 points but within the dying seconds Gavin WEYMSS managed to force the ball over the line after Neil Mains hopeful cross found the winger at the back post.
