Lossiemouth v Keith @ Grant Park, Lossiemouth

02-Sep-2006 Lossiemouth v Keith - Qualifying Cup (North) First Round Replay

Lossie returned to form after last weekends result against Keith at Kynoch Park by going down 5-0 in the replay at Grant Park. The hosts kept Keith at bay for the better part of the first half but three goals toward the end of the opening period followed by two second half strikes ensured Keiths progress to the next round.

A sign of things to come was the injury to Darren Watson in the pre-match warm-up, prompting the inclusion of Sanderson into the starting eleven just minutes before kick off.

Lossie were first to get a shot on goal, with Ellis launching an effort from twenty yards, forcing Shearer into an athletic one handed save. Keith were next to threaten, when Donaldson headed over a cross from the right from Watt.

The home side should have gone ahead twenty minutes in when Morrison took advantage of careless defending to steal possession from Robertson on the corner of the box, before playing a square ball in, only for Lee Moir to side foot the ball wide from six yards when scoring looked easier.

The game flowed from end to end with Keith next to threaten, but Cammy Keiths effort from 25 yards hit the side netting.

Fresh from his earlier miss, Moir almost turned provider when he beat two men down the left to play in Kyle Stewart a dozen yards out, but the youngster scuffed his finish wide.

The visitors went a goal ahead five minutes before the interval when KEITH sprung the offside trap and ran clean through on McConnachie, before composing himself and firing under the Lossie keeper to open the scoring.

Lossie barely had time to think before they were two down. Slow movement from Ellis on the edge of his own box allowed him to lose possession and DONALDSON fired home to double the score.

A minute later and it was three and game over. Former Coaster Darren Still swung a free kick into the box and KEITH headed home to finish the half and the tie.

Half time – Lossiemouth 0 Keith 3

Lossie made their first attempt of the half to get back into things when a good knockdown from Kyle Stewart landed at the feet of Moir, but his shot pulled wide of the target.

Keith were restricting Lossie to shots from long range and a keeper of Shearers quality had little trouble preventing Ellis and Middleton scoring from distance.

It got worse for Lossie on the hour as Keith went 4-0 ahead, LENNOX placing the ball wide of McConnachie and just inside his right hand post.

The long range shooting from Lossie continued as Ellis and second half sub David Muir fired in testers, but to no avail.

The final minute saw Keith go nap when some statuesque defending and heavy legs allowed LENNOX room to fire home from a few yards.

The Coasters now make the trip east to Banff, and the prospect of Deveronvale is likely to cause a few sleepless nights between now and Saturday.
