Lossiemouth v Nairn County @ Grant Park, Lossiemouth

21-Jan-2006 Lossiemouth v Nairn County - Scot-Ads Highland League

Nairn County came into this game on the back of nine wins in ten games but they found Lossie a hard nut to crack at Grant Park this afternoon with the new look reds battling for every scrap. Lossie were the first to threaten with Martin McMullen's thirty yard shot warming the hands of Jim Calder in the tenth minute after a long ball from Stevie Dunn had been flicked into the path of the midfielder by Doug Coull.

Calder was again well position to make the save from Craig Morrison after a Gary Youngson cross had made it all the way to the back post where the striker nutmegged his opponent before shooting at goal.

Nairn rarely threatened Stevie Dunn in the first half but from a Tony Low cross from the left wing the County's top scorer David Macrae headed goalwards only for Stevie Dunn to pull off a fine stop.

Lossie went route one again just before half time with Stevie Dunn's clearance being nodded on by Doug Coull for Craig Morrison but his curling effort was tipped over the bar by veteran Jim Calder keeping the scoresheet blank at the break.

It took only sixteen second half minutes to alter that and there was no surprise to find Craig MORRISON on the scoresheet. Gary Youngson hit a shot across the face of the goal and the ever alert hitman was there at the back post to sidefoot home from close range.

Nairn rung the changes almost immediately and one of those introduced, Martin Macdonald, very nearly made the difference. His run forced Dutch defender Michael Wintjes into a sliding tackle that saw the ball loop up into the air and it appeared for a moment that the ball was going to clear Stevie Dunn and end up in the net but the keeper adjusted well to tip it away.

Dunn made another fingertip save in the 88th minute when Willie Barron met a Scott Kellacher corner from the right to bring out a good stop from the keeper. Nairn were pushing on in the dying moments but despite and extended injury time the home side held out to claim all three points.
