Lossiemouth v Brora Rangers @ Grant Park, Lossiemouth

15-Apr-2006 Lossiemouth v Brora Rangers - Scot-Ads Highland League

The last home game of the season saw Lossiemouth run out winners against Brora Rangers. A poor first half saw little in the way of entertainment but second half goals from David Hendry and Kyle Stewart ensured the points stayed at Grant Park and saw Lossie move up to eleventh in the table.

The first half struggled to get into gear and neither side created anything like a chance for long spells. Martin McMullan made his return to a Lossie shirt after a spell offshore and threw a few long range shots at the Brora goalkeeper but none were of the quality needed to open the scoring.

As the half progressed Brora came more into the game, forcing a number of corners and retaining possession to keep the home side penned in their own half.

A few minutes before the break Lossie had the ball in the net through McMullan, who produced a tidy finish from a dozen yards but saw his strike disallowed after a push by Ellis in the build up.

Lossie started the second half with a bit more appetite and again had a goal disallowed early on. David Hendry saw his header on target disallowed for a push. Moments later Morrison raced down the right hand channel and only the bounce of the ball on a less than ideal surface prevented him from firing a shot in on goal.

The home side were growing in confidence and were creating many a chance, the best of which fell to Morrison who headed over a corner from Ellis. It was to be the Lossie sides top scorers last contribution of the afternoon as he was given his second booking shortly after for kicking the ball away, and was ordered off.

Brora took advantage immediately, and Kevin Stewart was well placed to clear a shot off the line minutes later. The visitors then managed to bundle the ball into the net but were foiled by the referee who disallowed the third goal of the afternoon.

Despite a short spell of domination from Brora, Lossie continued to play like the team with a one man advantage and Jordan Main came closest yet to opening the scoring but blazed his shot from six yards just over the bar.

Lossie took the lead with just under a quarter of an hour to go. Jordan Main swung a corner into the box and David HENDRY powered a header towards goal. The ball appeared to take a deflection from a hand on its way in and the referee momentarily considered awarding a penalty, but decided the goal should stand and Lossie were on their way.

Five minutes from time Lossie sealed the points with another corner play. Ellis landed a delicate cross on the head of substitute Kyle STEWART who lost his man and headed home from six yards.

Jordan Main provided the last of the drama as he forced Gray in the Brora goals into a fingertip save just on full time, but the two late goals were enough to secure the points. Regardless of the first half performance, taking all three points and keeping a clean sheet against a stubborn Brora side should set Lossie up nicely for their trips to Huntly and Inverurie.
