Lossie
suffered their second defeat on the bounce away to Nairn County this
weekend, beaten comfortably by three goals to nil at Station Park. Never
in the game, the visitors were downed by a first half goal from Ian Brooks
and second half strikes from Martin Sanderson and David Jones, and will
need to improve dramatically for the trip to Rothes in the Qualifying Cup. Nairn
were first to have a strike at goal, with 12 putting a shot wide from 18
yards. It was a warning to Lossie that, despite having not won at home
this season, Nairn were not to be taken lightly. Only a few minutes later,
Lossie could only watch as Dunn was forced into a point blank save from
Brooks. The
visitors carried on without much in the way of shape or coherence, with
little fluency about their play. The forwards looked detached from the
rest of the team and, despite Kennedy winning most of the high balls and
knocking them down, no one was up with play to take possession. The end
result saw Lossie on the defensive for the best part of the game On the half hour mark, Nairn went one ahead. As in both games here last season, Lossies failure to clear their lines at corners cost them dear. Duncan Jones swung one into the box, where Willie Barron deflected it toward goal. Dunn was down well to save, but could only watch as Iain BROOKS beat everyone to ram the ball into the net. For all their troubles, Lossie twice managed a shot on target as the half came to a close. The first came from David Hendry, after good passing down the wing from Youngson and Kennedy, and the second was a scuffed effort from Morrison. The half drew to a close, giving Lossie the chance to head for the sanctuary the dressing room and begin to sort themselves out. Half time – Nairn County 1 Lossiemouth 0 The
second half started with a quick burst from McMullan into the box. Having
beaten three men to get to the area, the ball was cleared before he could
test the goalkeeper, and the threat was cancelled out. Normal service was resumed shortly after, unfortunately, as Lossie continued to be too disjointed to have any influence over Nairn and the home side started stroking the ball about. The home side scored their second on the hour through Mark SANDERSON and lessons had not been learned from the first goal. Brooks headed another Jones corner toward Dunn; again the keeper was equal to the effort, and again Nairn were first to the ball to double their lead and effectively kill the game as a contest. Lossie kept plugging away, looking to get something going, and Morrison and Moir almost put something together. A good one-two confused the defence and saw Moir steam into the box, but the County keeper was out quickly to save well. Nairn added insult to injury five minutes from time through Duncan JONES. Having set up two for his team-mates, Jones fancied a goal for himself and when given the ball by Steve Sanderson in the middle of the park, he took advantage of the open space ahead of him to run on and let fly with a 25 yard hammer of a shot, which sailed over the defence and into the bottom corner of the net. Positives from today? Rothes' preparation for next weeks vital Qualifying Cup tie against Lossie also took a step backwards, as they went down 5-2 at home to Keith. And thats about it.
