Keith v Lossiemouth @ Kynoch Park, Keith

07-Jan-2006 Keith v Lossiemouth - Scot-Ads Highland League

Lossie narrowly failed to make it three wins in a row, losing out by the odd goal in seven to a strong Keith side at Kynoch Park this weekend. Three nil down minutes before the break, Lossie grabbed a lifeline through Craig Morrison just on the whistle, but despite another goal from Mo and one from McMullan, Keith scored another and held on for all three points.

The opening fifteen minutes was all Keith, with Lossie struggling to get a hold of the ball for any length of time. With Dixon out injured, the visitors struggled to retain their defensive shape, and Keith continued to press down either wing.

McMullan was the first to threaten for Lossie after sixteen minutes, forcing a good low save from Shearer, who had to be quick on his feet to block the rebound from Morrison.

Keith continued to dominate proceedings and it was no surprise when they turned their possession into the opening goal just after half an hour. Chaotic defending saw the ball bounce around the box before breaking free and bouncing upwards at the post, where Neil ROBERTSON Was on hand to nod it over the line. Five minutes later Keith doubled their advantage through Cammy KEITH, who beat David Hendry one way then another before firing low under Dunn.

As the half time whistle approached, Lossie were hanging on for the interval, hoping not concede another. Unfortunately, a defensive mix-up between Youngson and McIntosh allowed Barrie STEPHEN to race onto a free ball just inside the Lossie half and sprinted toward goal before powering a shot past Dunn, off the post, along the goal line and in.

Lossie looked dead and buried, but grabbed a goal seconds before the whistle. A long punt downfield was headed on by Coull to MORRISON, who composed himself before scoring from 18 yards to give the Coasters hope going into the break.

Lossie entered the field for the second half looking all the better for having pulled one back, and set about scoring a second. Dougie Coull was first to have a go, but saw the ball caught on his toe by Shearer just as he moved to shoot.

Lossie were dominating the early stages of the second half, with McMullan continually testing Shearer with long-range efforts.

Dougie Coull was next to threaten, and beat three men as he raced into the box. The Keith defence breathed a sigh of relief as the pitch ensured Coull got the ball stuck between his feet and failed to shoot.

Despite all the possession for the visitors, Keith were next to score, and it was Alan FRASER who nodded home from a few yards to surely finish the game as a contest. It was a harsh goal for Lossie to concede after having played so well in the second half, but Lossie were not going down without a fight.

Almost immediately, it was 4-2. A weaving run from Moir saw him power into the area, only for his shot to be blocked. The ball broke to MCMULLAN 20 yards out, and he fired the ball towards goal and it deceived everyone to fly into the bottom corner of the net.

Two minutes later and it was 4-3. David Hendry curled a ball low into the box and it broke to MORRISON who tucked it home for the second of the afternoon.

Could the visitors complete the comeback in the remaining minutes? Sadly not, but to go to Keith and lose narrowly and play so well in the second half is encouraging, considering the Maroons had won their previous 5 games at home. Lossies attitude and work rate in the past three games has seen a complete reverse in terms of results, and things are looking up. With Michael Wijntes set to reinforce the defensive side of things, and with the forwards scoring plenty, the remainder of January could prove profitable for Lossie.
