Deveronvale v Lossiemouth @ Princess Royal Park, Banff

06-Aug-2005 Deveronvale v Lossiemouth - Scot-Ads Highland League

Lossies first road trip of the new league season to Banff finished in much the same fashion as the game the previous week, with home side Deveronvale finding Lossie generous at the back and lacking sharpness at the front. With another four goals conceded and none scored, Lossie remain rooted to the foot of the table.

As with the seasons opener against Buckie, Lossie sat a little too deep and allowed the opposition too much of the ball, and the opportunity to press for long spells. A dangerous game to play against the likes of McKenzie and co, but Lossie continued to defend resolutely and the ball occasionally found its way out to Lee Moir on the wing, and he looked to have the running of the defence but was only rarely given the chance to shine.

Midway through the half, Vale were awarded a penalty in dubious circumstances. Lee Moir was judged to have clipped the heels of Bryan Dlugonski who flung himself to the deck to win the spot-kick. As is so often the case however, justice was done when a tame effort by Jamie Watt was saved and held by Steve Dunn.

Lossie were now struggling to keep a hold of the ball in the middle of the park, and long balls over the top to Kennedy and Morrison were finding their way back to the feet of Mike McKenzie, who quizzed Dunn with a long-range shot, which the keeper parried over. Lossie were holding on at the back, but it was difficult to see where a goal was going to come from.

Just when it looked like the sides would have to settle for a goalless first half, Deveronvale ruined Jim Walkers team talk by grabbing two late into the first 45 minutes. Steve Dunn could only parry a low shot from Steve Dolan, and Jamie WATT was first to the rebound to put the home side ahead.

Direct from centre Lossie steamed upfield, and a Craig Morrison pass across goal came to the feet of Graeme Kennedy, but to his dismay he could only manage the slightest of contacts, and Bremner in goals came to collect.  Only a minute later and Vale had doubled their advantage through Mark SMITH, and the game was as good as finished.

Half-time: Deveronvale 2 Lossiemouth 0

Minutes into the second half, Vale had the ball in the net through Smith, but the effort was disallowed, and the cricket score feared by the visiting support was averted. McKenzie was next to test the Lossie goal, with Dunn doing well to tip a snap shot by the former Lossie target man over the bar.

The Lossie defence held firm until the 70th minute, when an awkward shot from McWilliam was well kept out by Dunn, only for Steve DOLAN to be first out of the blocks for the rebound. Five minutes later and the scoring was complete when Kenny GILBERT tucked the ball home. Dunn had once again saved well from McKenzie, but received little in the way of back up from his defence, and the loose ball was sent over the line for the fourth and final goal of the afternoon.

Lossie used all three subs late on, and they were allowed a bit more space than those they replaced, now the game was over. Jordan Main looked particularly enthusiastic, and for the second week in a row attempted a chip over the goalkeeper from distance, but was just too high this time.

The Coasters now face the unenviable task of keeping quiet a Fraserburgh side who have had plenty of success on recent trips to Grant Park. Surely more will be made of the midfield, with Martin McMullan available after suspension.
