Lossiemouth v Huntly @ Grant Park, Lossiemouth

05-Nov-2005 Lossiemouth v Huntly - Scot-Ads Highland League

Lossie were back in action this weekend after a free Saturday, and welcomed current Scot-Ads Highland League champions Huntly to Grant Park. After two good performances against Inverurie and the return of former Grant Park hitman Darren Shalliker, an interesting afternoon was all but guaranteed.

Lossie created the first clear chance of the game ten minutes in. An Ellis free kick was swung into the box where it was only half cleared to a free Kennedy a few yards out. His rasping shot beat everyone but ruffled the wrong side of the net on its way past the goal and Huntly could breath again. Moments later the visitors almost took the lead when Matt Gairns found Ritchie Taylor in space in the Lossie area, but his snap shot rebounded off the post and flew to safety.

Lossie old boy Shalliker created an opening for his team when he turned his man on the touchline, but his pass across the face of goal went untouched by all.

The home side surprised their guests by taking the lead in the 21st minute. McIntosh played a fine pass down the wing to Craig MORRISON, who went round the Huntly keeper and produced a fine finish to slot home from a tight angle.

The lead lasted a mere ten minutes before Huntly hauled themselves back level. A Gary McGowan free kick flew over the heads of everyone and Ross CAMPBELL was at the back post to nod home the simplest of goals. Lossie could have moved back in front shortly after, when Kennedy hurtled into the box only for the ball to get stuck between his feet, and he ushered it out to Morrison who hit the ball well but across the face of goal and wide of the far post.

Instead, it was Huntly who took the lead just before half time. Gary Youngson lost possession on the edge of the Lossie area, and Ritchie TAYLOR took full advantage to drill the ball under Dunn and into the corner of the goal.

Half time – Lossiemouth 1 Huntly 2

Lossie had the first chance of the second half, when Morrison beat his man down the wing and turned inside, before curling a shot into the arms of Groski in goal.

Huntly moved further ahead midway through the second half. Careless defending and a deflection off Shalliker saw the ball break to Matt GAIRNS who had a simple finish from a few yards out.

With ten minutes remaining, Lossie almost handed Huntly a fourth, when David Hendry deflected a Shalliker cross just past his own goal. Moments later at the other end, Kennedy swung a low cross into the box for Morrison, but it was cleared off his toe.

Huntly got their fourth with five minutes to go, and Shalliker was the creator, sending a deep cross to the far post where it was nodded in by Richard CRAIG. The scoring was complete minutes later when SHALLIKER himself pounced to make it five and complete a miserable afternoon for the home side.

Again, Lossie kept it close and went into the break adrift by the narrowest of margins, only to suffer a late collapse. Memories of the two solid performances against Locos will now be forgotten, and with two games against Keith separated by a must-win home tie to Wick Academy, Lossie will need to sort things out quickly.
