Lossiemouth 3 Deveronvale 2

Lossie took all three points in an exciting affair at Grant Park this afternoon. Five goals and three red cards cheered up what was a grey and damp afternoon down Kellas Avenue way.

Vale were first to attack, and Dunn had to be sharp to tip a header onto the bar and to safety. Shalliker replied almost instantly with a trademark free kick which rattled off the post to Ross Bremners relief. Deveronvale were missing some inspiration in the form of Mike McKenzie, who missed out on a return to Grant Park through injury. Vale looked a little the worse for wear after the previous Wednesday nights defeat at Huntly.

The home side went a goal up in 8 minutes through SCOTT who took possession from Noble and chipped Bremner from half a dozen yards.

Lossie found themselves playing against ten men when Slater was left with no option but to haul down Shaun Scott, who had raced clean through on goal. To add to his misery, the referee waited until he was being stretchered off before issuing the red card. The incident also brought about the return of Tatters to Grant Park, as he strolled on with the stretcher!

Five minutes into injury time Vale equalised through URQUHART, who volleyed the ball past Dunn to his far post.

Half time - Lossiemouth 1 Deveronvale 1

Deveronvale set about getting themselves in front in the second half, and controlled the game for the next twenty minutes, and only a goal-line header from Youngson and some last ditch clearances kept the Banffers from going in front.

When not defending, Lossie were having a great deal of success down the left, tormenting the Vale no.3, and midway through the second half Lossie should have retaken the lead when Biscuits draws Bremner out of his box and finds Moir in space, but the youngster gets the ball stuck between his feet and the chance goes begging. Scott was harshly booked for sliding in on Bremner, but the ball looked to be in open play, and the booking was to prove costly later on.

Lossie took the lead through SHALLIKER with ten minutes to go. Ellis whipped in a deceptive cross and Shally nodded home through a mass of bodies from a yard. Only a couple of minutes later Lossie doubled their advantage, and it was spectacular. An attempt at a tackle on Scott by PRESSLEY went badly wrong, and Bremner ended up lobbed for the second time in the afternoon, only this time it was from all of 20 yards. With a two-goal lead and only five minutes to play, the points would have been safe in the hands of most teams.

Not so Lossie, who chose to make the home support sweat out the remainder of the game. Almost direct from kick-off, Vale won a free kick 30 yards out, and GILBERT stepped up to curl home a ball even Shally must have been impressed with. Dunn had no chance with it, and it was game on again.

The final minutes saw yet more drama, with two players sent off. Scott was given his second yellow in a couple of minutes, but it appeared to be a case of mistaken identity by the referee. Bremner was given a straight red for charging from his line to pile in amongst the others, leaving Vale with only nine men to finish off the game.

An excellent performance from Lossie, who can now go to Inverness this weekend to face Clach with some optimism, but the Lily Whites will be looking to start scoring again after drawing a blank away to Brora.
