Nairn County 5 Lossiemouth 3

Lossie shipped five goals to Nairn for the second time in a fortnight, but again produced a decent standard of football which was only undone by poor defending of free kicks. Again, Lossie managed to score enough goals to win most games, but not this one.

Unlike the last contest between the two clubs, Nairn scored first in only 4 minutes. Kellacher hit a thunderous shot towards goal, only to see the ball hit the underside of the bar and bounce out. Unfortunately for Lossie the ball landed in front of SANDERSON who headed under Dunn to open the scoring.

Lossie took it on the chin and were level only minutes later when a run from Caufield down the Cowshed side was squared inside to Shalliker, who found ELLIS on the edge of the box. He had time for a touch before placing the ball to Calders right to square things up.

Lossie pushed for a second goal, and only solid defending from Nairn kept Shalliker and Biscuits at bay. Lossies came closest when a Sim free kick was looped in and headed down to Hendry, who saw his shot blocked and Rollings, who had lost his marker, could only curl the second attempt wide of the post. Lossie had Steve Dunn to thank for keeping the score at 1-1, as he produced a fine one-handed save to push a venomous shot from Kellacher over the bar.

Dunn couldn't keep them all out, unfortunately, and after 40 minutes, Nairn went 2-1 up. A free kick was swung in by Garry Ewing, who saw MacRae deflect the ball towards goal. Dunn could only parry the ball to SEATON, who headed home. Before Lossie had managed to compose themselves, they conceded another through KELLACHER, whose shot from 16 yards flew past Dunn into the roof of the net.

Lossie clawed their way back into the game just before the break when SCOTT turned his man on the edge of the box to score, after good work by Rollings.

HALF TIME – Nairn County 3 Lossiemouth 2

The second half had to start more slowly than the first had finished, and sure enough, it took a further 23 minutes of midfield tussle before the scoring recommenced. Unfortunately for the travelling Lossie support, it was Nairn who extended their advantage. Another free kick was conceded within shooting range, and although Dunn got down well to save the initial shot, the rebound was tapped in by BARRON from all of a yard out.

Again, Lossie hauled themselves up off the canvas and got stuck into Nairn. They were handed a lifeline when Scott was tumbled just inside the box by Smith. SHALLIKER kept up his impressive scoring record this season by sending Calder the wrong way. Minutes later, Shalliker was given a free header from a Lossie, which was heading straight for the top corner. Calder, however, was not for conceding any more, and his outstretched arm turned the goal-bound effort over the bar.

Despite constant Lossie pressure for the remaining minutes, Nairn refused to concede any more, and still had time for one more goal of their own. Dunn once again was on hand to save a shot from Kellacher, but with no-one on hand to clear any loose balls, SEATON took full advantage to wrap up what was yet another entertaining but ultimately disappointing game  (from a Lossie perspective) between the two sides.

Lossie now face Fraserburgh at Grant Park, who will provide extremely tough opposition.
