Lossiemouth 1 Buckie Thistle 2

Local rivals Lossiemouth and Buckie Thistle faced each other for the first time this season, and on a fine day at Grant Park it was the visitors who came out on top by the odd goal in three.

Despite the excellent footballing conditions, the game took its time to heat up. Darren Shalliker had the first real chance of the game, when a Hendry cross from the left found the leagues top scorer in acres of space. Unaware of the amount of space available to him, Shally headed just wide, when perhaps there was time for a touch.

Just before the half hour, McMullan was sent clean through by Shalliker, and he raced towards goal only to fire his shot into the grateful arms of former Lossie netminder Kevin Main.

Kevin Souter fired a shot off the Lossie crossbar from a set-piece in front of goal five minutes before the half, and just as Lossie thought they would see out the half goal-less, Buckie took the lead. Another former Lossie star, Francis More, delivered a low cross into the box to the feet of Stuart MCGUIGAN, who side-footed Buckie into the break a goal up.

Half time - Lossiemouth 0 Buckie Thistle 1

Lossie commenced the second half looking to get back on level terms, and had the better of the next ten minutes. The home side enjoyed plenty of possession, and the game started to come out of the midfield more often. Buckie, however, were the first to threaten in the second half, when More struck a shot across the face of goal, but it went wide for a goal kick.

Lossie hauled themselves back into the game through MCMULLAN in the 65th minute. Regular scorer Scott hit a well timed cross into the danger zone, and Martin flicked it home. Lossie proceeded to keep the ball in Buckies half for longs spells, and had they not been caught offside so many times, the home side may well have taken the lead.

Unfortunately it was Buckie who regained their advantage with ten minutes to go, when Donnie MUNRO hit an excellent volley over Dunn from 18 yards.

Lossie coped well with an expensively assembled Buckie side who may have left it too late to mount a title run this season, but who will certainly be one of the sides to beat next year. The Coasters travel to Cove on Saturday minus Darren Shalliker, who is suspended. Daniel Forde will be looking forward to returning to happy hunting ground, as he scored a hat-trick on his last visit to Allan Park.
