Lossiemouth FC Match Reports - 21-Aug-2004 - Wick Academy v Lossiemouth
Report by Chris Souter
First Half
The first half started in brilliant
Wick sunshine and it wasn't long before the Lossie fans were cheering as some
clever play from Thomson in midfield saw the ball fall to SCOTT, via a
neat pass from Shalliker, and the Lossie striker was able to stroke the ball
with ease past the diving Wick keeper to open the scoring in only the 2nd minute
of play.
The bulk of the first half from then on seemed to see Lossie sit on their lead
and let the home side come into the game more - and their chances started to
come as the half wore on.
The Lossie fans breathed a sigh of relief a minute before half time when a free
kick from Wick's goalie was flicked on towards goal by Wick's number 11 - but
Dunn did well to stretch out and palm the ball off the base of the woodwork.
And then, just as we thought we were escaping with a 1-0 lead into half time,
Wick decided to upset us by scoring a goal right on the half-time whistle when
Wick's number 10 (apparently the son of the Wick fan standing next to the
Lossie support) found himself in space and was able to shoot low past Dunn to
make it 1-1.
Half-time: Wick 1-1 Lossie
Second half
The second half started just as
the first one finished-off with Wick dominating the play and creating chance
after chance - especially when Wick's number 9 made a great run into the Lossie
box in 50 minutes and paused in face of the attention of the Lossie defence and
calmly passed back to the oncoming number 10, who blasted the ball narrowly over
the bar - and on to the A9 (or whatever it is called at Wick).
Around the hour mark Lossie started to come into the game a bit more and Wick's
goalie was forced to make a good save from Hendry before Biscuits blasted the
ball over after some clever play several minutes later.
Lossie finally regained the lead halfway through the second half when SHALLIKER
lined up a free-kick directly in front of goals and shot the ball perfectly into
the top left corner to please the Lossie fans after a torrid time.
It wasn't to last long though as Wick equalised again a few minutes later when
an out of the blue shot deflected off Wick's number 10 and past the
helpless Dunn.
Lossie were starting to look the better side and got reward via what seemed to
be a soft-looking penalty decision when Shally was toppled in the box. And it
was SHALLIKER himself who took the penalty and he slotted the kick low to
the right of the diving Wick keeper to make it 3-2, and that's how it finished.
FULL TIME: WICK ACADEMY 2-3
