Lossiemouth v Rothes

Lossiemouth returned to winning ways this weekend as they dismantled Rothes at Grant Park on a cold afternoon. The goals were flowing again as Lossie raced into a 3-0 lead at the break, but that elusive first clean sheet of the season remains just out of the Coasters grasp for now.

The home side went a goal up in only 12 minutes, after good work from Shalliker was followed up by a pass to SCOTT who finished well from the edge of the box.

Lossie took control of the game and began testing the Rothes defence from all angles. A Stephen Sim free-kick from the half way line found its way through to Shalliker on the edge of the box, but he could only watch in disappointment as his excellent volley bounced of the top of the crossbar and out. The ball found itself at the feet of Steven Ellis, who sent a rasping shot past Darren Strong but again the frame of the goal denied Lossie their second of the afternoon, the ball hitting the far upright and bouncing out. Rothes cleared, but Lossie were looking hungry.

Lossie were two ahead shortly after, when SCOTT hit a shot from all of 35 yards which flew over the head of Strong and gave the homesters a comfortable lead.

The third goal wasn't far off, and duly arrived from the Highland Leagues top scorer, Darren SHALLIKER, who took control of the ball on the corner of the six yard box, turned his man and hit a crisp volley past Strong.

HALF TIME – Lossiemouth 3 Rothes 0

Lossie started the second half looking for more goals, and Strong had to be alert to save a snap shot from Scott two minutes in.

It was 4-0 after 65 minutes when Shaun Noble found Shalliker in space in the box. The number 10 appeared to be fouled, but the ball broke to HENDRY who tapped home from close range.

Rothes pulled one back with 15 minutes to play, but it disappointingly came from poor defending. While in possession on the half way line, a short back pass from Walker allowed CREE in, and he rounded Dunn to finish well and give the Speysiders something to cheer.

Lossie almost had a fifth, but Shallikers header from Moirs cross hit the bar and flew over. The game was won, however, and, despite the late consolation, Lossiemouth can be happy with this performance. The only disappointing factor is that due to Huntly-Peterhead taking place next weekend, Lossie have a free week, and will have to wait to see if they can repeat todays success at Keith in early December.
