Fort William 0 Lossiemouth 1
Lossie
really did make the midweek trek to Fort William for their rearranged fixture
from December. The Coasters were looking to complete the league double over the
Fort after beating them 3-1 back in August.
The
football was going to have to be pretty spectacular to live up to the
surrounding scenery, improved further still by the perfect footballing weather.
Both teams made the effort, going all out to score. Lossie should have taken the
lead in the ninth minute through Moir, but the youngster got the ball caught
between his feet in the box, after an accurate pass in from Scott.
Lossie
took the lead after half an hour. Scott won a free kick out on the wing, and
quickly took it, finding ELLIS in space. The former Elgin City player rifled a
shot toward Campbell, and the visitors were one up.
Both sides continued to look for goals, with John McDonald next to try, but he could only watch his shot go wide. Soon after, Scott could only watch in dismay as his goalbound effort slowly went off course and past the post.
The
half closed with a curling free kick over the wall from Scott forcing Campbell
into an excellent flying save.
Half time – Fort William 0 Lossiemouth 1
The second half was barely a minute old when Lee Moir once again found himself clean through on goal. Campbell, however, was equal to the task, and raced out to block at Moirs feet. Lossie started the second half well for a change, and continued to cause Fort problems in the middle of the park, but were continually caught offside by the linesman on the dugout side.
Fort slowly reasserted themselves and could have had an equaliser had it not been for another fine save from Dunn, who palmed a free kick over the bar. Next to have a go was Scott who, on one of the rare occasions he wasn’t given offside, found himself with only the keeper to beat, but once again Campbell was down well to block. Soon after, Shalliker received possession from McMullan on the edge of the box, but could only blaze the ball over the bar. Lossie came close again, when Scott finally rounded the keeper, only to see his shot blocked on the line and cleared to safety.
The
dying seconds saw Dunn keep Lossie in the lead, as he threw himself at a shot to
prevent it sneaking in at the post, and the three points were secure.
