A tired looking Lossie side was beaten in Inverness today by two goals from ex-Elgin player David Ross. Despite having the appearance of a team just out of bed, Lossie did occasionally play some interesting football, but were never really at the races.

The game started on a bad note for Lossiemouth when Shalliker was tackled badly in the first minute. After some treatment he was back on, but Lossie didn’t assert themselves and let Clach have most of the play.

Clach opened the scoring after 12 minutes. Hendry and Sim both jumped for a long ball punted downfield, only for neither to make a solid connection. The ball fell to McMillan who rolled it across the face of goal for ROSS who had the easiest of tap-ins.

Ally Ridgers in the Clach goal gave the home side a scare when a long-range shot from McIntosh slipped through his hands and trundled goal ward, only for the uneven pitch to deflect it away for a corner. Lossie finally began to put Clach under some pressure and forced half a dozen corners in a short spell, but could make nothing of them. The closest the visitors came was a shot by Shalliker from point-blank range, which was pushed over by Ridgers.

Clach went into the break a goal up, but Lossie were still in the game and with a bit more enthusiasm could have caused the home side problems.

Lossie started the second half looking a different side and in four minutes should have equalised through McIntosh. Moir fired a free kick into the box to Shalliker who chested it down to the feet of Tosh, but he could only force it wide. Scott was the next to threaten for the visitors, but put his shot over the bar.

Lossie were having the better of it and Ridgers did well to force a curling shot from McIntosh round his post, and could only watch as another attempt at goal by Ellis came of the post and away to safety.

Just as you thought there might be room for an equaliser and the chance of Lossies first draw of the season, Clach finished the game with an excellent but simple goal with 13 minutes to play. With the Lossie back line a little too far up the park, Tony Low hit a peach of a cross over the box to the far post, where it was met by ROSS for his second goal of the game.

Watching the game, you couldn’t help wonder what might have been if Lossie had got stuck in about Clach early on. Clach are well known for being an aggressive outfit, but Lossie allowed them the run of the game. David Hendry did an excellent job of marshalling the defence, and McIntosh and Ellis both had good games also, but Lossie didn’t look like the side that had performed so well against Rothes a few days earlier. Deveronvale visit Lossie on Saturday, and the Coasters will need to find another gear against a team who put five past them in November.
