Lossiemouth FC Match Reports - 16th March 2005 - Rothes v Lossiemouth
Scot-Ads Highland League

Report by Jimmy Shaker

Rothes 1 Lossiemouth 3

Lossie headed to MacKessack Park to take on Rothes in tonights Scot-Ads Highland League match. In a game rearranged from way back in the season, Lossie came out on top with goals from Lee Moir, Daniel Forde and Shaun Scott, but had to pull Rothes back from a goal up.

The much-maligned MacKessack Park saw action tonight and, although heavily sanded, looked in decent nick in places. Rothes were the first to test the Lossie goalkeeper, but Lossiemouth had the first real chance of the night when an excellent cross from Shaun Noble from Lee Moir all on his own. The youngster decided to take a touch instead of heading the ball first time, which allowed the keeper to come out and collect. Soon after, Shaun Scott nearly broke the bar with a rasping shot. Lossie were having the better of the game, but when defending, the visitors allowed Rothes to push up the park instead of stamping their authority on the game.

Rothes took the lead against the run of play in the 35th minute through Chris GRANT with a belter of a strike from all of 20-odd yards, leaving Dunn with no chance. They could have had a second but a cross into the box was skewed over the bar from close range.

The half ended with a fine run from McMullen, who darted into the box but could only curl his shot just wide of the far post.

The teams ran out for the second half in spitting rain, which helped bring the temperature in Rothes down a degree or two. Lossie went chasing an equaliser from the off, and Scott found himself sent clear by Forde, only to have the ball taken off his foot by Strong in the Rothes goal.

Lossiemouth levelled things up 15 minutes into the second half through Lee MOIR, whose run through the box saw him find space to drill a shot low past the Rothes keeper after good work from Forde and Sim. Less than two minutes later, Lossie were in the lead when Daniel FORDE headed home a perfect cross from Shaun Noble.

The return of Shalliker was not long in coming, and he was sent on for Forde with 25 minutes to go, and almost to immediate effect. The clubs top scorer hit a peach of a free kick which Strong had to watch all the way until he could tip the ball onto the bar.

The third goal came with ten minutes left on the clock. Shaun Noble sent in yet another inch perfect cross which SCOTT nodded home from close range. Rothes could have had a second in the dying seconds, but a free-kick from Smith hit the wrong side of the post and bounced out.

Lossie looked a very different side from the one who were well beaten on Saturday by Keith, and can feel a little more confident about heading to Clach this weekend.
