Brora Rangers 2 Lossiemouth 2
Lossie suffered neither victory nor defeat for the first time this season as they were held to a 2-2 draw up at Brora. Despite twice going ahead, Lossie were pegged back twice, and could not find a third goal.
On a bleak but crisp afternoon, Lossie made the early running, keeping Brora in their own half and moving the ball around. The visitors managed to force a run of corners in a row, only for the ball to be shot high over the bar at the fourth and final attempt.
Lossie
took the lead after 21 minutes. Blair Duncan hauled down Lee Moir in the penalty
area, and the referee had no hesitation in awarding a spot-kick. Up stepped
Darren SHALLIKER, fresh from a ten-day absence, to fire the ball past the
keeper, his 20th goal of the season.
Brora immediately began pressing for an equaliser, and started causing Lossie problems at the back. They equalised just shy of the half-hour through John COLQUHOUN, who flew a free kick past a stranded Dunn from almost thirty yards.
Lossie went in search of their second goal, and Shalliker came close to hitting the target with a header. The Coasters did find a second goal minutes before the break. Shallikers run into the box was halted by a well-timed tackle, only for the ball to break to a wide-open David HENDRY. The winger composed himself a fired a rasping shot past a stationary Rae.
Could Lossie hold on until half time was the question doing the rounds in the shed, but the answer was no. A lax back pass from Lee Walker allowed John COLQUHOUN to steal in on the edge of the box and round Dunn with ease, before tucking the ball home.
HALF TIME – Brora Rangers 2 Lossiemouth 2
Brora were denied a stonewall penalty four minutes into the second half when Gary Rollings felled Shane Sutherland, but the referee waved play on, to the distress of the Brora players and support.
Shalliker was next to have a go, testing Rae with a curling free kick from 20 yards, but the keeper was equal to the test.
The remainder of the half saw Lossie under pressure, with Brora looking far more organised. As the second half wound down, Lossie started to lose their discipline slightly, seeing Shalliker and McMullan booked for their trouble. With only a few minutes to go, Lee Moir forced Rae into a save, and soon after, a long Dunn goal kick found Hendry clean through, but he could only skew his shot wide.
A draw is probably a fair result, but Brora will have had few better chances to achieve their first home win of the season. Lossie have the chance to put the game behind them against Fort William on Wednesday, but the Claggan Park side will have other ideas.
