Lossiemouth 6 Brora Rangers 3
Lossie put Brora to the sword on a fine day at Grant Park, where Darren Shalliker helped himself to a hat-trick to ensure Lossie stayed in the top half of the table and chasing the league challengers, meanwhile leaving Brora searching for their first points of the season.
It took Lossie only four minutes to open the scoring. Lee Moir, who would go on to have another good game, was upended while running into the box, and referee Morag Pirie instantly pointed to the spot. Up stepped regular taker Darren SHALLIKER, who fired past Michael Rae. The Brora keeper was going to have a busy day.
Only a couple of minutes later, it was two-nil to the home side. Lee MOIR continued his fine recent form with a goal from a couple of yards, after a pass from David Hendry. Lossie now had the game well under control, with Broras chances being restricted to headers from corners. Lossie defended their lead well, and went 3-0 up after 25 minutes. A cross into the box from Scott was handled by MacDonald, and Lossie were presented with their second penalty of the afternoon. SHALLIKER stepped up again and put the ball past Rae for the second time.
Despite the three goal cushion, Lossies only other first half chance came when a Lee Moir free kick hit the crossbar. The home side were well worth their three goal lead going into the break, with Brora still give any kind of account of themselves.
HALF TIME – Lossiemouth 3 Brora Rangers 0
Brora ensured that Lossies pursuit of a first clean sheet of the season will go to MacKessack park next week at least, when they pulled a goal back a minute into the second half. Lossie looked to move the ball downfield on the ground, but lost possession just short of the halfway line. DUNCANSON took the ball and sent a shot from all of 40 yards over the head of Dunn, who was caught off his line.
Lossies lead was shrinking quickly, when after 49 minutes Brora pulled a second goal back through CALDER, who was sent clear by Duncanson and saw his shot beat Dunn at his near post. With the three goal lead almost gone, Lossie were not looking like a team who would hold on. An error by Youngson only moments after Broras second saw Duncanson force Dunn into a save, and this brought Lossie back to life. SHALLIKER completed his hat-trick when a pass from Scott found him marked in the box. Shally managed to get a touch on the ball, and it went over the keeper and rolled slowly over the line to put Lossie back in a commanding position.
Quarter of an hour into the second half and Lossiemouth grabbed a fifth goal through SCOTT. A great cross from the right by Moir was controlled well by the youngster, who placed the ball under Rae. ELLIS completed Lossies goalscoring for the day with ten minutes to go when he converted a McIntosh pass.
Brora still had time for another goal, however, and when a free-kick from Rogers bounced out from the underside of the bar to the foot of Alan HERCHER, who made no mistake from close range.
