Lossiemouth v Wick Academy

Having claimed an incredible extra time victory over the Coasters back in September Wick travelled to Moray with high hopes of claiming a win but it was Jim Walker's side the looked the more dangerous of the two teams during the opening exchanges.

A long range Shaun Noble lob just fell over the top of Don MacMillan's crossbar after thirteen minutes as Lossie began to find their range and fans didn’t have long to wait before sharp shooter Darren Shalliker found his.

The home side took the lead halfway through the first period when Lee Moir's mazy run down the right wing saw him cut inside and fire a shot goalwards that Don MacMillan managed to save but inadvertently parried it into the path of Darren Shalliker and from 10 yards out he was not about to miss.

It was very nearly 2-0 moments later and once again young Lee Moir was involved. Shawn Scott played him in but from 8 yards out he shot wide.

At the other end Gavin Henderson had a chance to level matters following a mini goalmouth scramble but from six yards his effort flew into the welcoming arms of Stevie Dunn.

With just six minutes to go to the break Shawn Scott got on the end of a long ball from Steven Sim but the former Highland League Player of the Year was denied by Wick's Don MacMillan who ensured there was only one goal in it at the break.

Half time - Lossiemouth 1 Wick Academy 0

An inspired substitution ten minutes after the break sealed the home side's win. Martin McMullen came on to the park for Lee Moir and from Steven Ellis' feed he used his first touch to set the ball up for a hit, which flew into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

Wick tried in vain to get on the scoresheet as on the hour mark Gary Manson sent Martin MacGregor through one on one with Steve Dunn. However, MacGregor failed to keep his composure and he blasted well over the bar from 12 yards out.

Lossie could have been doing with a third just to kill off any hopes Wick had of scraping their way back into the game but they had to wait until the final minute to grab that security. Darren Shalliker moved back ahead of Mike Stephen in the top goalscorers listings with another trademark finish from the penalty spot.
