Lossie’s unbeaten run came to an end as they were defeated 2-1 at home by Fraserburgh. It was a very close game which was decided by a Gary Harris Penalty. The first defeat after a four game unbeaten run which consisted of draws with Inverurie, Deveronvale and Huntly; and an excellent win against Brora.
Lossie started the game off pretty well working at a good tempo, stringing together some excellent passes and creating some great chances. Lossie were awarded a free kick on the 7th minute, Rodrigues delivered but the linesman flagged for offside.
After a good start from Lossie, Fraserburgh struck after 14 minutes to make it 1-0. A chip over the top of the Lossie defence by Willie West to Harris who also chipped Mini, who was unlucky to concede this as he did get a hand to it but couldn’t stop the ball going into the net.
After the Fraserburgh opening goal, they came close again, a great free kick whipped in by Cowie but Ally Bellingham managed to clear the ball.
On the 26th minute, Lossie’s equalizing goal came after a superb run by striker Ross Archibald. Who puled the ball back where Willie Mathers was there to tap it in past Leask. Mathers has now scored in Lossie’s last 2 home games.
A few minutes after the goal another chance came Fraserburgh’s way, Harris playing a through ball to West but Mini pulled of a cracking save to deny him.
The last chance of the half came Lossie’s way with a fine pass from Chris Ross up to Charlesworth but his effort went wide of the target.
Half Time: Lossie 1-1 Fraserburgh
Lossie had a chance to score with a harry noble free kick early in the second half, but there were no takers and the ball went out for a goal kick.
The winning goal came on the 76th minute with McCauley fouling a Fraserburgh player In the box with Referee McFarlane awarding the penalty. Fraserburgh’s Harris stepped up and scored. Again, Mini was unlucky as he went the right way.
Lossie had a good spell again towards the end of the game but could not get the goal that mattered.
Full Time: Lossie 1-2 Fraserburgh
Word from the Gaffer:
Today’s result was disappointing bearing in mind we have been undefeated in Dec. That was down to the professionalism of the players throughout that period. Overall there wasn’t a lot between the sides and yet again we have pushed a top team all the way. We felt that Fraserburgh actually changed their formation to react to our forward play which suited us. We gave away a cheap goal when at the time I didn’t feel we were under too much threat but Harris (9) had given us one or two warnings of his running power and quality earlier, however, we were flat across the back when a through ball was intercepted by Harris when 10 yes deeper than my back line. We got back into it with some good positive forward play when Martin Chrlesworth linked well with Rosco, playing in Rosco whose pull back was slotted away by Willie Mathers (very similar to Brora 1st goal). We made a lot of errors throughout the game and some slack passing although I think this was enhanced by Brochs determination to press us high. As the 2nd half wore on, we were gradually forced to retreat with the odd flurry forward. We paid the price as we committed a soft foul in the box and they scored from the penalty spot. We had one more glorious chance to equalise in the dying minutes which we didn’t convert and when things became critical, our opportunities to deliver a quality ball, never materialised. So over the season, honours even over the season which isn’t too bad against another team who will be considered top 6 material, but if this is the case then we are not a million miles away, but have to do better week in week out. A few key players either missing or not starting today which would have been handy as we play Buckie next week.
